I should add that I probably won''t get it.
My boyfriend refuses to buy diamonds anymore unless they are man made after seeing a show on the Discovery channel about people losing their lives when looking for diamonds.

well at least he is thinking of others

Maybe you can talk with your bf about conflict-free diamonds and the Kimberly Process.

Hearts on Fire has gorgeous stuff! The ring is beautiful! When we were in Vegas visiting, after I moved from there, we designed my ring. We were staying at the Mandalay Bay and while walking through the casino I saw the HOF store, so of course I had to go play! I spoke with the salesman there and asked him he he could get loose stones... His answer was yes, and our next question was: How do the prices compare to other stones? He told us that there were very similar priced. So the bf told him to looks into 3 and 4 ct stones and email us some options! I was thrilled! I still keep the email today for laughs. When I received it I couldn''t do anything but laugh! He sent us prices in the 6 figures!! Moral of the story is that, yes HOF has gorgeous stones (could just be the light in the store, I don''treally know) but the price is not worth it to me!
My Bf too has a little issue with conflict diamonds, we did ask our jeweler where he got his stuff from just to make sure! My BF always says that he doesn''t understand diamonds, because man has figured out how to simulate a perfect one!

That ring is very pretty. I think it looks similar to the way the setting is done on a girl''s in one of my classes. Her''s is very pretty also. Either way hopefully you''ll be able to get it.

You mentioned that he want man-made diamonds and I''m sure you are wanting the REAL thing. Maybe IF he doesn''t change his mind and get you the mined diamonds he could still get the setting like that one. Good Luck though!

(P.S. I''d be to chicken to "send the hint" too)

Maybe one of your PS pals could send your BF the hint? ;-) Using an anonymous e-mail address, at that... I''ll volunteer!

My boyfriend also *nearly* would have had a major issue with diamonds. His cousin got engaged last year and his fiancée would have *refused* a diamond because of documentaries like what your BF saw. So they got what I''ll call "something else" and her ring includes something else and sapphires and is not to my taste at all but it''s okay, it''s not on my hand until I die. Anyway, after sitting through a number of very long conversations with my man and his cousin, I was like, "Um, if you get me something other than diamonds, I am going to be unhappy. Diamonds are the hardest, and I''m a hard worker! I''d scratch something else. Plus, even if you know nothing about diamonds, I do--they''re my birthstone, too, and I can help you pick one out... someday."

So just a couple days ago when I told him about my joining this forum ("I''m not the only one!") he said that he knew how important diamonds are to me (and my taste is pretty modest in terms of $$) so my opinion is the priority over his theoretical issue with the diamond industry.

That ring is exquisite! Exactly to my tastes... I am drooling here!

My FI was only concerned with conflict-free diamonds, so we bought Canadian diamonds. As we are Canadian, it only made sense to support our own economy as well as get conflict-free sparklies. We had the ring handmade locally as well. Some people like to say we have outrageous markups, but it''s definitely not always true! Finding the right vendor is definitely the key. I have some recommendations if you''d like!

Good luck!

I guess I am for man made diamonds too, especially after that show about the semis that drive on the ice out to the diamond mining place...i would hate for one of the jolly guys to bite the dust just so i could have a sparkly ring :)

what stores are there in canada that you would recommend? I only live about 4 hours from the border (in a little town called fargo...maybe you''ve seen the movie?

) so canada would be a good place to look. although a bit more spendy as their money is now worth more than the us money (ugh)

Actually, you wouldn''t even need to cross the border. www.diamondexchange.com has a store in New York, and they also ship from online orders. We almost dealt with them (the Toronto branch, they didn''t have their Montreal store then unfortunately) and the service is top notch. Bichon got her stunner from them, you can see it here. You''re quite a long way from Montreal, otherwise I would have recommended our jeweller!
