What to ask a vendor (etsy)? Pink sapphire e-ring.

Hi, I'm new here, but I browsed through the forums quite a bit before joining. :wavey:

My SO told me to start looking at engagement rings so I can pick one out for him to buy for me (and so we know how much it will cost). I've seen stones in person and I like the look of pink sapphires the best. I like the middle to dark pink ones like in this range--http://www.gemselect.com/photos/sapphire/sapphire-gem-374831a.jpg.

I contacted a seller that makes a lovely shaped cocktail ring. It's Anemone Unique on etsy--I haven't found any mention of it on here through searching or google. https://www.etsy.com/shop/AnemoneUnique?ref=shopsection_shophome_leftnav
I like the round cocktail ring style to be more specific. The pricing I was told from her for a pink sapphire (round, 10mm) is lower than I expected and I'm not sure what exactly to ask the seller...(can I say the price on here)?

I assume...is it treated, man made, clarity, grade, certified, ect?

Has anyone on here used this seller before? She seems friendly and is fast with her replies.
Personally, I don't care if my stone is man made or natural, but I think heated ones are said to be more fragile?
The site says natural stones, but for the price, I got confused.

I'm really new to all this and any advice is welcome.

All of the stones in that store seem either badly windowed or opaque. We can't talk about synthetics, but there are forums out there that can. I can't point you in the direction of those either, sorry.

What kind of range are you looking to spend? Under a certain amount?

I looked through AU's Etsy shop and am not convinced she will be able to get you a quality sapphire. The stones are mostly small, common quartz and poorly cut (bay door sized windows). 10 mm is huge and is probably around 4.5 carats for a sapphire. Natural only means that it isn't man-made but it is most likely to be heated. There is also the potential of it being diffused (permanent infusion of other minerals that act sort of like a permanent dye that permeates throughout the stone) and clarity enhancement (oiling, resin or glass).

We are not allowed to discuss synthetics. The price range you are looking at should be around these thereabouts:

I agree 10mm is huge, I really wasn't looking for something so big. Thanks for the links, it confirmed my suspicions.

Ah, that's fine. Sorry, about mentioning them.
My SO said about $10,000, but I really don't want him to spend so much on a ring and since I don't want a huge stone, I think it shouldn't cost that much.

I know it's probably going to have to be a custom ring since it seems most places we've been to don't stock pre-made rose gold rings.

So many times, we refer newcomers to Gemfix (www.gemfix.com), to get an idea of the availability of stones and the prices - once again, I might suggest you take a look at their website, along with others on the vendors list. This will give you an idea. I look forward to your journey as a pink sapphire in rose gold can be quite beautiful. :praise:
