Whew- what an incredible journey this has been! I feel so fortunate to have worked with the incredibly talented Mike R and his father Ken has been an absolute sweetheart!! I am beyond delighted- in fact absolutely thrilled with the whole experience and, of course, my beautiful ring!
I have always enjoyed the threads that include the "making of the rings". Since RDG sends photos all along the way while making their custom designs, I have decided to start at the beginning and take you all through the process with me- I hope you enjoy as it may take awhile.
It all started almost a year ago when I purchased my pink diamond. It is a .36 Modified Brilliant Oval, Natural Fancy Purplish Pink. I loved the color and the cut of this little diamond and just had to have it. My dilemma was then how to set such a tiny little diamond measuring just 4.77 x 3.74. I, of course, spent hours looking at rings for inspiration. I knew I wanted a ring so I could look at it! Nothing was popping for me until I realized many of my inspiration photos were nature inspired. I loved flowers, birds and animals- and an idea started to take shape that since I wanted hand presence for this RHR- what better way than to make it a centerpiece for a flower. I wanted to make this an art piece- not just a piece of jewelry. I knew immediately that I would like the creative Mike R. to make this piece for me, but was worried because a) I had heard he was taking few,if any, new custom requests and b) my diamond was so tiny compared to what I'd seen RDG create- I thought they might not be interested in my little project so I was very excited when they agreed to take on my project as long as I was OK for waiting a few months
I was in no rush so thus began the waiting game. I sent tons of actual flower pictures as I was Ok with roses, orchids, or camellias. The only other guidelines I gave were that I wanted it basically just pink and white diamonds as I wanted the focus to be the pink diamond and didn't want it competing with other colors, and that it shouldn't be larger than a nickel as my fingers are too short to wear anything larger and I also felt anything larger would overwhelm my diamond. Other than that I gave Mike carte blanche to design my ring. In late October I received the following picture of the gorgeous watercolor Mike made for my ring!! It was perfect and I loved the orchid! Mike suggested adding some small Argyle pink diamonds to the ring and I loved everything about it!
