... a ring has such a SHARP knife edge that when looking at the ring straight on (from the top) the band looks almost paper thin? Although, of course, from the SIDE, there is a healthy "depth" to the shank? Can''t find any photos to show this, hope the question is clear enough.

Reason I ask, DDIL has this type of e-ring, with a princess stone and two trilliants, (which is LOVELY!) and she asked me if the shank style had a specific name. I was embarrassed to admit that I don''t know...

Isn''t Debs ring like that? You may try PMing her to ask.

I thought it was known as a Tiffany knife edge setting. Haven't heard of another name for it??

Isn''t the Tiffany knife edge like Dem''s? Because if so, that''s a softer, more "gentle" edge than what my DILs ring is. Hers is a SHARP edge... honestly from the top, the band is almost invisible. Which is actually pretty neat, because the diamonds do almost look like they are floating on her finger.

I would just call it a really pronounced knife edge.

Haha, that could work! I wonder if there''s a more "official" name for it, though? It''s a very lovely look.

My MIL''s e-ring is about 40 years old, and has the same shank. She has a .94 round (large for her time, I know! - no upgrades, ever...) with verrrrrry thin baguettes on either side, with that same extremely thin band. It makes the diamond just POP.

Then she paired it with an ugly wrap and just ruined the effect.

I LOVE that thin band look!
