Hi everyone,

Relatively straightforward question. Looking to have a setting made that will be a pave-set halo and pave-set shank. What would be the pros and cons of going with either platinum or 18k WG with palladium. I am mostly interested in the structural rigidity (want to make sure all the stones stay where they are supposed to over time), loss of shine/luster over time, and maintenance.

Thanks

Platinum would be the ideal choice for pave settings.

Could you elaborate please.

I'm leaving work so can't type a long reply, but do some searches on here and you will probably find several helpful topics on the pros/cons. In a nutshell it's more secure for holding stones, less maintenance than most white gold (no rhodium plating), doesn't lose metal over time. The same can be said about palladium, but many jewelers don't know how to work with it or just don't like to.
