Hi all,

I've been presented the details of a round cut stone by a brick & mortar jeweller in Australia.

Difficult to judge based on just numbers.
Are you able to see the diamond or will the store need to bring in the diamond for you?
If it is the former, try to look at the diamond away from the bright lights of the store.

If possible, have the store also look for a diamond closer to the following parameter:
Depth: 60 – 62%
Table: 53 – 58%
Crown: 34.0 – 35.0 degrees
Pavilion: 40.6 – 41.0 degrees
(Complementary crown and pavilion angles if possible)
Lower Girdle: 75 – 80%
Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick
Culet: None or Pointed
And then compare the 2 (or more) diamonds (again, away from store lighting) in a blind taste test and see which one you like the most.

If the stone needs to bring in the diamond for you then it's safer to have him look for one within the above parameters.

PS: Also, it may be easier to keep the discussion in 1 thread, difficult to keep track of multiple threads.

Thanks, D.
The diamond needs to be brought into Australia.

The measurements seems to be within the range that you have specified - except for the crown and pavilion angles.

I've also referred to the AGS proportion chart and it is an "Ideal".

But just looking at these measurements on paper - is this a no go?

It has good potential.
Just that a small discrepancies in angles (though to be fair, the angles are complementary) can make a difference.
Plus GIA tends to round off numbers (is it a GIA or AGS graded diamond).
Hence it is generally safer to go with those numbers.

How's the return policy like with this store?
What's your thoughts on going the online route? (since the B&M store will need to bring in the diamond from another country anyway).

It's GIA diamond. Yes, I understand that numbers are rounded up/down and could make a difference.

We decide if we really like the diamond just by looking at the cert/measurements and pictures of the diamond (sometimes 360 view) and they will bring into the country - so unfortunately, no return simply because they would have to purchase it to stock in store which they don't do cos it means locking up their cashflow.

Didn't really considered buying online. Felt that the B&M option was less of a hassle - we gave our budget, they source the stone and fix into setting, etc.
