slg, it depends on the enhancer. For example, I've done this with pearls, and because they were on a simple chain with no other adornment, it didn't really matter what size the jump ring was, as long as it fit over the post, and didn't show beyond the diameter of the stud. (see pic below)
However, I also had some enhancers made with an accent diamond on the dangle, and the jump ring needed to be large enough so that the little diamond hung far enough below the stud. In the pic below, you can see that the bezeled diamond isn't quite low enough, and because the stud was so small, he made an oval ring so it wouldn't show. I think it's best to take all the components to a jeweler, including your studs, and have the bench figure out what size ring you need. Would love to see a pic of what you're working on - jackets and enhancers are a great love of mine! |

cellentani thank you for your reply! they are similar to yours with the pearls. i unfortunately can't send my studs to a jeweler because they are making these remotely. I will just let them know what the diameter of the studs is and say that they need to be smaller than that.

Assuming the post is in the center of the stud -- you need it to be more than "smaller" than the stud (I think) -- if you don't want it to show. Maybe you need it to be smaller than the space between the post and the edge of the stone? Can you measure that?

The diameter of the circle/link that will attach to your earring post needs to be less than half of the diameter of your studs to be sure it won't show. So 2.4mm round or a hair smaller, I guess.

ok...I think the bezel adds some to the studs so should be safe with 2.5 mm. I will ask if they have 2 or 2.5 mm in stock. thanks!

Yes, and the post means the dangler hoop is not exactly at the center of the stud too, maybe a mm or more raised. |

ok good to know...I told them 2 mm just to be safe. that should be big enough to fit on studs. I will post pics in the pearl forum when I get these! |
