Hi!

My SIL just gave birth to a little girl and we want to get her a pearl pendant, probably in pink or lavendar. I don't think she'd want a full strand, so we thought we'd start small. Should I look at any vendor other than Pearl Paradise? I'm not familiar with pearls at all.

Thanks!

ForteKitty -- You may also want to consider an Add-a-Pearl necklace. You start with one pearl at birth and add one on either side each year to age 16 -- or really however you want to do it. It is inexpensive while creating a really nice tradition. My BFF started one for my daughter when she was born. My daughter's pearls are graduated -- and you can always adjust the chain length or play around with the pearl sizes and placement.

It's for my SIL to wear until she wants to give it to her daughter. I'm not sure she's too into pearls, so I don't want to commit her to adding a pearl for each birthday.

I thought it was for the newborn girl, so scratch that. (In any case YOU would have been adding the pearls, not her!) I'm sure you'll get lots of advise on this forum. Let us know what you end up getting, Auntie!

I have a pearl initial pendant with my child's name. I think it's a nice gift for a new mom.

Well, you couldn't go wrong with the Pearl Paradise pendant. Depending on what you're looking for... Pearllunar is a vendor on eBay. Many people on this forum have purchased things from them with good results. They have some interesting colors and a variety of pendants from time to time. They tend to take super close-up pictures of their pearls, though, so if you see something you like make sure you know what size to expect.

Sadly, the etsy route was vetoed. He doesn't trust them to be real pearls. Looks like Pearl Paradise is the only way to go, unless someone can recommend another vendor who might have cuter bales? I'm really not liking that long bale.

Pearl Society have loads of lovely pendants and I have purchased through them with no dramas.

This pendant looks lovely, is Tahitian and roughly the same price as the PP one:

This is a nice Golden South Sea pendant:

Alternatively, have you looked at Pearl Oasis: http://www.pearloasis.com/pearl-pendants.htm???
