Okay, ever since iLander mentioned Catherine Cardellini’s site I’ve been obsessed with pearls. I want to get one or two (maybe three lol) necklaces for Christmas and I really need help deciding. I know pretty much nothing about pearls but I went through everything on CC’s website and picked things I like. I need lots of PS help.

BTW, I’m pretty tall and normally like necklaces 18” or longer. I have no idea what will look good on me. I have a fair complexion and long blonde hair. I wear lots of black and navy. Oh, and I’m only 20 so I want some classic strands but maybe in some fun colors.

Here are the links to nine necklaces I like, please help me narrow it down.

I like 2, 3, and 8.

The black ones are dyed in color... Not a terrible price for them but the blue/black one you might find cheaper another place. The green blackish one is pretty cool.. Those colors are straight from a Tahitian necklace I have so if you are looking for something similar but without the $$$ then that is a good strand.

Personally I feel the round are a bit more classic than the rice pearls but what is more important to you... Color.. Shape.. Or price???

Pearls are addicting :halo:

I would like 6 but the thread color bothers me.

Hi bean, thanks for sharing your opinions!

I'm drawn to the strands with round pearls. I'm usually go for more classic pieces so I think the round strands are my favorites. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so in love with colored stones, they eat up most of my jewelry budget. Price is definitely important, I am a little sensitive to the shape, and I'm pretty easy going about colors.

I like the color of 2 better than 8, but I like the price, length, and size of 8 better.

The thread color on 6 bothers me a little too.

I do really like the colors of some of the rice pearl necklaces. Since I don't have any pearls yet I think I should go for more classic pieces and focus on more fun colorful pieces later.

I think I like the idea of the black pearls more than I actually really like those two dyed necklaces.

I've been thinking of starting out with a white freshwater pearl necklace from somewhere like The Pearl Outlet and getting one fun necklace from Catherine Cardellini. I'm not sure what size would get though. I so tall, I have a hard time picturing what size pearls would look best on me.

Hi Burberry! :wavey:

I think, because you are tall, you will need a longer necklace with larger scale pearls. Something in a 18-20 inch, at least 10mm. You didn't say if you were skinny tall or average tall, though, and that would help to know, so we can work out your scale. My daughter is big boned (seriously not a speck of fat, but all her bones, even her wrists, are huge) and what looks good on me (size 2-4), looks a bit smaller on her. Are you over 5' 7"?

I LOVE  the ones you picked, I think you'll like the color on the golden pink, but they're a little small, and I think the purples and lilacs will work well with your skin. I think, as a first go, you should treat yourself to AAA, they're so shiny and nice. I think we need to go bigger.

I personally am not a rice fan, I think they look a little artificial in real life, because they are so even.

I took the liberty of picking some others, that are similar in shape to the rice, but have more unique variations in shape. I like drips for you, but that is a personal opinion, so feel free to say

http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=1127 Love the color/shape variation. lush, big, generous size pearls

http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=908 If you wear a lot of black, this will contrast rather than blend in like an all dark would blend in

http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=935 These peach and pink tones will tone down considerably when in bright light, but will glow during a candlelight restaurant date.

I like the white that you picked, but will you feel awkward wearing them with other colors, considering the silk color? Bean and I are of like mind on the silk.

You're young, have some fun with the shapes and colors! :cheeky:

So, look at those, tell me what you like and don't like and we'll all hunt/play some more! :appl:

OOO I do like those!! ^

I forgot to comment about the size... I really feel that it comes down to whatever you like. I'm 5'4'' but I have pearls ranging in 5mm in size to 11mm in size and love all of them. My sweet spot is 8mm though :) I might never wear 14mm pearls.. but that doesn't mean another 5'4'' person couldn't pull it off.

I have said this before but I'll say it again, I think 7.5-8mm looks absolutely classic on everyone. It's such a good size- not too big but not too small. But that's just how I feel.

Hi iLander! :wavey:

I’m about 5’11” and in proportion to my height but a little curvy. I absolutely love the first and third links you posted! I really like this one as well:

http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=1002

I’m loving the drips!

So here are the ones I’m trying to decide between now:

1. http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=1127
2. http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=1064
3. http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=136
4. http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=935
5. http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=1002
6. http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=1362
7. http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=1360

I think 1127 and 935 are my favorite drips.

I’m not sure about the length of 1362 and 1360, I think they might be a little too short on me and look awkward. I also don’t know if the grade of 1064 and 136 will bother me.

Hi bean,

I tend to like bigger pieces of jewelry. I’m a little self conscious about my height and a lot of times I think more delicate pieces look weird on me. I don’t have any pearls so who knows, I might end up liking the look of smaller pearls on me. I guess I’ll just have to buy some and see. :naughty:

Thanks for the link too! :))

OOOH, I think you can't go wrong with any of those Burberry! :appl: I'm a fan of the drips, but I don't want to influence you any more, I think this group is really very good and I don't want to push you too much in one direction or the other.

Okay, this is my own wacky, make-up-my-mind shopping system (no warranties neither expressed nor implied :D ):

1. Look through the options and ask yourself which ones you will actually wear. I love a lot of jewelry that I see (I recently tried on some dangly diamond earrings worthy of a countess--4 CTW!) but then I try to think through what I'll actually use. That should give you one answer.

2. Then think about what it would just plain make you happy to own. What looks really cool to you? What would make you smile, just to see it? Don't be surprised if that gives you a different answer.

3. Now Flip a coin. Heads is option 1, tail, etc. Remember, this one counts!

4. About halfway through the coin flip (usually while it's in the air) you'll KNOW which one you really want. It really doesn't matter which way the coin lands, the answer is in the tossing (it's kind of Zen  )

Then buy that one!

I do this a lot when I go shopping.

My husband refuses to shop with me now . . .

ASIDE FOR BEAN: Maybe we should start a thread showing all the posters' neck shots, so people can visualize different pearl sizes. What do you think?

Lol! iLander, you are so funny! You are also totally right, I need to think about which ones I'd wear the most and make me happy! So... I think I'm going to end up with two drip necklaces (not sure which two yet). I absolutely love the shape! I thought this necklace was cool:

I know! I really love this necklace. It has an ombre feel with the graduated color. I think it's a front runner.

BBG!

I LOOOVEE the peach drips! :cheeky: :cheeky:

They are very pretty! Totally office- or date-appropriate! (I remember when I used to date. There were only 3 channels on the TV, and Steven Jobs was just some kid puttering around in his garage.)

Remember, guys AUTOMATICALLY think "classy" when they see a girl in pearls. It's like a law . . .

TWO? Wow! I can't wait to see what else you pick!

Haha! I think you're thinking of "hombre." Ombre is like a graduated color like this:

I think of ombre yarns, having done some knitting, back in the day. It's a French word, meaning shaded.

Lol! A girl wearing pearls is very classy. Some people interpret classy as intimidating and stuck up... I always intimidate people at first (or so people have told me) before they get to know me. I think it's because I'm so tall and I'm sure all the Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and nice jewelry doesn't help lol. Twenty year old guys don't appreciate classy and instead I get hit on a lot by men who are older than me. I think I may need to become a little less classly.

Btw, I just emailed to see if they have any white drip 18"+ necklaces available. If they have something in white I'd totally do that and pick one colorful drip necklace.

Ahhhhh, ombre. Weird yarn name . . .

I'm actually in design (since before you were born *), we call it a gradient. I think it is a very cool look for pearls, I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere else.

I used to think pearls had to be white and round, until I came here!

*Now I really feel old . . . :nono:

The ombre necklace is very nice, classy with a twist. That would be my pick. But I love colors and prefer color pearls over white pearls.

Wait'll he sees how good to me "he" was this Christmas. . .

OMG! Those are gorgeous!

So I emailed Catherine asking if she had any white drips. She said she would go through the mixed color drips and see if there's any big enough for a necklace. She got back to me today, she doesn't have anything big enough. She said she could cut this one up for me:

http://www.catherinecardellinipearls.com/?subject=moreInfo&id=719

What do you think? :naughty:

I LOVE THAT IDEA! I didn't even think of that, it's awesome!

(sorry I didn't answer sooner, I've been distracted)

Hi iLander,

It's okay, I know you've had a lot going on. I'm sorry to hear about your BFF and the whole DIL situation.

Catherine cut up the one I posted and made a white drip necklace. If you go to her website it says "Possibly for Marley" in the title. It looks gorgeous! I still can't decide between the colored drips. I think I should probably buy the white drips to see how I like the size, length, etc before ordering another necklace.

Thank you for all your help! :D
