The De Beers Consumer Settlement Cks are in the mail!

For those who participated in the De Beers class action lawsuit (which I did after someone posted about it here on PS), the consumer checks have finally been mailed out.

Your settlement has to be for over $10 to get a check.

If anyone receives a ck, can you post what percentage you got and if you had loose diamonds or jewelry w/diamonds in it? You don't have to say how much money you got, just the percentage. I'm curious if what we get is even slightly close to what the original claim percentage was suppose to be. IIRC, for loose diamonds, it was suppose to be 59%.

I'm on my ipad so I can't post a link, but I just double checked, and for loose diamonds, the percentage changes depending upon the amount you spent, so if you spent $2k, it's a smaller percentage. They also said that is an estimate bc they were not sure the number of claims. I don't think a person will get $5900 back and that is why I posted bc I'm curious what people do end up with.

When I first signed onto it back in 2008 (!), I had hoped to get a lot, however, since then learned the realities of class actions and know it won't be much.

They're suppose to be in the mail so maybe within the next few days? Mine is being sent to my PO Box, so I'll have to drive to the post office. I only go there a couple times a week so may be a few more days for me.

The website I have had bookmarked for ages was lasted updated mid march. It says the checks will be sent out in a couple of months.

If anybody gets more than a few bucks, I'd love to know it. Count on the lawyers to be buying diamonds, but not the plaintiffs. Class action suits are the biggest con going, at least if you're the plaintiff (and sometimes the defendant). The only winners are attorneys.

I've never joined one but received an unsolicited check from a class action suit against Microsoft -- all of $1.30. Suspect most of the class got similar settlements & the lawyers went out & bought yachts.

Oh, no! Lol Hopefully my check is for more than eight cents. I'm hoping to add the funds to my vacation that we're leaving for later this week. I went to the post office today and no ck yet. People on other websites are saying they have received their checks, but some people might be making up stuff...there is one site where people have been claiming to have gotten their checks months ago - before the judge approved the final decision... If I get a small ck, it'll help pay for a lunch in Vegas. A big check will be hidden from my DH and I'll run off to Tiffany & Co and buy bling while he's playing the slots

One time, I was sent a check for either $50 or $100 (I think it was $50), for a lawsuit I didn't even know about. That was a fun surprise.

I read this thread and realized that I hadn't even checked the mail today. So I went to the mailbox and found a check for $267. What a nice surprise!
