I am in Montreal Canada and hubby will be visiting San Fransisco for a few days in March... I wanna send him on a little bling shopping trip... :naughty: Any recommended stores in the San Fran area? I might ask for... a simple bracelet or something...

Fi Z, are you looking for a particular designer brand, Cartier, Graff, etc, or independent stores with a really nice selection of unique pieces, or more traditional, classic pieces?

1. If you're looking for the branded pieces, SF has a lot of the big names, and in the past couple of years VCA moved into the Neiman Marcus downtown. I'm sure you can find the locations of Graff, Cartier, Tiffany on the website.

2. If you're going to hit a department store to be efficient, Neiman and Saks Fifth Avenue have the more popular and some more obscure designers as well. I found a nice array of gold pieces there too.

3. Eric Trabert on Fillmore Street has a lot of unique pieces, and he sources old cut stones. I think he is the only jeweler in SF that carries Single Stone, so that should tell you the type of store it is. It's very very small so you can miss it, but it's packed with beautiful goodies. Eric is a metalsmith so he does custom pieces too.

4. If you want gorgeous but somewhat pricey antique pieces, Lang Antiques also in downtown has a amazing selection. Huge. They make french cut eternity bands, which tells you that they know what french cuts are. ;-) Check out their website.

5. Shreve and Co., Beautiful and pricey pieces, downtown SF.

6 If you want more reasonably priced traditional pieces, diamond crosses, studs, diamonds, the Sf Gift Center is full of jewelry stores. All you have to do is call one store, give them your name and tell them you want to visit them, and they will give you a pass for the whole center. So once you're in there, you can go to any of dozens of jewelry stores. I would just call Derco's ahead of time, and they will let you in.

If I think of anything else, I will let you know. If you husband just walks around downtown, near Neiman Marcus, there several high end independent stores there. He won't be able to miss them.

Hope he brings you back something you love!

Almost forgot about D&H and Shreve.

There isn't that much to see and D&H. It's theme is ethically sourced jewelry. But if your in the Castro anyway check it out.

and of course Shreve
http://www.shreve.com/

The Shreve building is full of jewelers but they are generally appointment only smaller shops. My jeweler is there.

I almost listed Gallery of Jewels, too.
they periodically have trunk shows and perhaps there will be one when he is in town!

if he has a car available and is out and about down the peninsula, this is worth a visit: http://www.erinmacjewelry.com/
a lot of one of a kind very original pieces. much better than what her website is showing right now but also very pricey.

and if he gets even further down to the south bay, this place: http://escobardiamonds.reachlocal.net/?utm_source=ReachLocal&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=Search

I haven't been here in years but there used to be some nice things and probably still are: http://geoffreysdiamonds.com/

If you're looking for more unique local places, here what I did on my last jewelry scouting afternoon on Union Street/Cow Hollow and Fillmore:

Start on Union Street between Octavia and Laguna and head west:

David Clay, 1872 Union Str
Stuart Moore, 1898 Union St
Union Street Goldsmith (Love them!!) 1909 Union St
La Bijouterie 1931 Union St
Mabel Chong 1949 Union St
Dianne's Estate Jewelry 2181 Union St

Then you grab the 22 Fillmore bus up the hill (south/outbound) and hit up:

Eric Trabert, 2420 Fillmore St
Gallery of Jewels 2115 Fillmore St.

This runs the gamut from high end custom jewelry to ultra modern to antiques, with a couple fun indie places thrown in as well.

There is always 66Mint. It's by appointment only, but if he has time to kill...?
