I have had my kindle only since the middle of January and I have 128 books on it. I LOVE to read and will read most anything
set in front of me.

Since reading Geckodani's thread about whether to get a kindle or nook, I was wondering how many books everyone has on
their"s. Do you mostly buy or download free material?

Right now I have 20 or so classics on my Kindle. I plan on purchasing more books here coming up. I'd like to read Water for Elephants before it comes out in theaters.

I've got 20. I've only had my Kindle since my birthday in November, and I've read all but 3 :) :D

I've got around 130-150. I have only paid for maybe 10. I keep an eye on the freebies and have been very satisfied.

I was given a Kindle for xmas by DH and I have around 40 books on it. However I also have a file from my BIL with 2,500 books on my computer hard-drive...

I do a mix of freebies and paid-for. Freebies are the ones that I'd buy second-hand anyway, novels etc and it just saves the space in my house having them in e-format. Most of what I buy is more referency.

My hubby wants to read that one too! One of my favorite freebies (only because I love the title) is called 'Don't Die Dragonfly'.
The alliteration just rolls off the tongue. Thought you might like that one!

I am catching up to you, somethingshiny! Getting a free book has got to be one of my most favorite things in the world. World peace,
ending hunger and getting free books. I thought going to the library and finding a new best seller in the racks gave me a
serious case of the happys, but free books is a whole new level! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Baking Artisan breads. I just wouldn't translate well to kindle.

Pandora, do you like reading books on the computer? That is a whole lot of reading material!

Water for Elephants is one I did buy. It's a wonderful novel. Highly recommended!!

Free books just make me happy. I could peruse the books for hours at the library and be in heaven. Since I can't get to the library regularly, my Kindle is my life saver. When JT is getting restless, I've even found some free books for him and I to read together. Choice of the Dragon is a choose-your-own-adventure Kindle book that JT LOVES! And, it was free! For the first few weeks that I had my Kindle, every night I would go through the top 100 and choose a few. Now, I know how to search Top 100 Free Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror, etc. That is just awesome.

I haven't checked out Amazon's listings lately, so I'm off to get another book!

1200ish. Most are short stories, freebies etc. 39 paid. I try to be good and read 95% unpaid stuff since it's wayyyy too easy to buy new books and for me, is rather like having a credit card linked to a button that gives me crack instantly, lol. So I try to control myself.

My Dh complains about my bookcase taking up too much room plus there are more books than space so they're stacking up on top of each other... so he says go to the library but I'm having a difficult time finding many of the books I'm wanting to read. Maybe it's time for a kindle!

I have about 75 books on my Kindle, and I've paid for about half. I don't buy many new releases, though, so I often don't pay more than a few dollars. A significant chunk of my Kindle library consists of classics--I love that these wonderful books are free! I just finished reading Jane Eyre for the first time last night.

My husband would love to get an e-reader, probably a Kindle. I haven't broken down yet but it's something I'm thinking about.

I do have a question though. How much do new books (bestsellers) typically cost? My husband's into classics so most, if not all, of his books would be free. I usually only read new books and I know they're not free, obviously. I'm just not sure about getting the Kindle because I can get my books (well, and my husband's) books for free at the library.

I have 41 books, none of which were free and most of them were new releases. I am a super picky reader...I just like what I like. I have my favorite authors and the classics just don't inspire me. So, I'm part of the niche that doesn't get the perk of free books, which is okay.
Lately my purchasing has slowed down, there just aren't nearly as many books that I want to read in past...oh, I don't know...year?

To answer Zoe...bestseller prices or new releases are now set by the publisher. Some are around $10.00 while others can be as much as $20.00. Totally depends on what the publisher deems reasonable. I sincerely miss the "nothing over $9.99" days...

Pillars of the Earth is currently 19.99 which is the most expensive I've seen. Water for Elephants was 6 or 7, Eat Pray Love was maybe 12. I've seen lots of books around 5 yrs old that are .99 or 1.99. And I love the samples. You can sample any book for free. I've sampled what I thought I'd love, didn't get into it the the 3-4 chapters (sample length) and just didn't buy it. i've also found some new favorites by sampling things I didn't know if I'd like and then ended up purchasing. I keep a group of books on my wishlist and then go in every now and then to see if any of them are reduced priced.

I have probably 100. I only got my Kindle late Nov, so I have read about 30 maybe... I have only paid for 2 I think. I scour the free list, plus I read a lot of classics. I have been catching up recently on the Anne of Green Gable series, which I loved when I was a teen. I like Little Women/Pride and Prejudice type books, which is great since they are free :)

The new releases I buy for my book club range from $8 up to $15 these days. That said, my friends who buy the hardback or paperback version are paying $15 at minimum, and sometimes up to $25 or $30 for the same books. I miss the "nothing over $9.99," but I haven't been finding they're that much more than $10 anyway.

Man, am I impressed. I aspire to be you, LGK! It is very much like an instant high! Legal, so we can love it!

MC, a e-reader is the answer to your stuffed bookcases!!! Then you just buy the books you HAVE to have hard copies of. It is so
incredibly freeing to have so many books with you at all time, wherever you are! Plus, it takes the stress out of insomnia, because
you know you always can have a great book to read if you want to.

We spend a couple weeks each year at the beach, in a 30 ft trailer, with 7-8 people. I often wake up in the middle of the
night and read. I can't get up, where the heck would I go? I always worry about a book light or page turning waking my DH.
This year I will have my kindle and I won't have to tote 20 books with me. I am going to give myself a couple hundred buck
budget to buy all the wonderful summer reads I want to for that trip. Sheer heaven!!!

I have a huge wishlist too! I do the same thing. I may get Water for Elephant. I didn't like the Pillars of the Earth. I also like to read
what people say about the books, and I do love samples. The only other place I love samples is Sees candies, but this is a close second.

Does anybody else get up first thing in the morning, get a cup of coffee and check out what new books are on the free list?

Holy crap! 1200 books! And everyone says *I* need to cut down! Clearly I still have some way to go. :D

I have more than 700, and I haven't paid for a single one.

I love being a geek.

DH and I use the same Kindle account. We have 77 archived in our account. I have read over half of them since I got my Kindle in July.

My best friend's husband just gave me a disk with 5,000 kindle books on it. I haven't even had a chance to upload them yet to see what books are there. It looks like I'll have reading material for a very long time to come

I have 115 books on my Kindle. I bought one of them. (Mudbound, didn't love it.) About 100 of them were free. My sister downloaded five of her bought books onto my Kindle.

I am a heavy library user, and I still like to swap books with my mom and friends, so I don't read exclusively on my Kindle. I do love some of the classics (Jane Austen, anyone?) and I've reread many of those on my Kindle, already. I buy a lot of used books to read as potential recommendations for my students, so I like to own them and put them in my lending library at work. I give a lot of paper books away to students and colleagues, and I think I'll always enjoy doing that, so I won't be an exclusive Kindle user.

That being said, I really love my Kindle. I'm spending a month in North Carolina this summer (living in a college dorm, no less!) and I definitely plan on buying a lot of reading material on my Kindle for that trip.

I read one to two books a week, and I'd say I read about one book per month on my kindle and the other six to seven books are paper books from the library or friends.

Of course, the one negative to using an e-reader is that you're less likely to have beautifully adorned bookshelves:

Sadly, none yet! I got mine for Christmas, but I have just been too busy to even think about it. Maybe I'll browse for some ebooks either tonight or tomorrow.

I don't mind reading on my computer but they're actually there because BIL had them on a memory stick and I couldn't cope with loading them all up at the same time!

I have a bit of a thing for Robert Ludlum novels, spy stories in general and for some bizarre reason... books about climbing Everest (very good one in the freebies bit on Amazon) all of which I don't really need to own in hard copy!
