I like to read the posts here occassionally and I used to come to this site for info on diamonds when I was picking out rings. I got engaged December 8th,2004 and the BIG day is set for October 1st 2005. I was wondering when everyone else is getting married?

Cool!!! I live in NY and that time of year is beautiful....my fiancee and I met in October 1999, so it''s always been my top choice for wedding months...and October 1st won''t be hot, but it also shouldn''t be too cool either....

I love the east coast in early October. I am very jealous! lol.

We aren''t engaged yet, but have picked out November 12th, 2005 tentatively for our ceremony in Malaysia. This could change as tradition is to run the horoscope. The horoscope typically determines date & time, based on the window you give it. However, since we have to travel there & back, we may provide a small window to narrow down the date. hehe.

We haven''t set a date for our wedding in the US. I would like to do June 2006 as it will allow us time to save (we''re paying for both weddings) and have our reception on a schooner on Lake Michigan.

Engaged July 18, 2004,
The big day is May 29, 2005. Hoping for decent weather for our outdoor ceremony but May in New York can be really sketchy.

I was engaged for only 2 months and also had an October wedding almost 2 years ago. I thought it would be decent for an outside wedding and it was 50 and rainy and COLD. The next friday as we were on our honeymoon it was 75 and sunny in Indiana. Figures I''d pick the wrong weekend.

I actually had to plan my wedding around Notre Dame football home games. We had a lot of out of town guests and all hotels are booked way in advance for the games so we planned an away weekend.

Anyways, congrats on your engagements and upcoming nuptials.

Lovey - One of my best friend''s got married that week-end (Oct 2) last year in CT. Perfect time of the year!

He''s originally from Malaysia....lived there most of his life excluding 6 years in New Zealand and 2 plus years now in US. It''s important to him & his family to have the hindu ceremony in Malaysia. Plus I wouldn''t miss the opportunity to experience his customs & cultures.

Nooners... Wow! That's wonderful that you will celebrate your Hindu wedding ceremony with his family and friends in Malaysia. I think you are in-between monsoon seasons too!

When I was in high school, I lived in Thailand for a year. Since I lived with a Thai family, I was able to attend and participate in many different religious functions. Once I attended a Buddhist wedding ceremony...so beautiful and still touches me to this day. My fiance and I are both non-practicing catholics and we have just chosen our officiant who happens to be a practicing Buddhist. It's funny how things work out.

Another holiday was Loy Katong. At night, everyone in the town would go to the river and put their floating lanterns in the water. Each float had a candle (or 2.. or 20). It was amazing to see these floating en masse down the river. The local story was if the "boats" of two lovers float together then they were meant to be together. Probably an old wives tale, but a lovely story just the same.

We got engaged on Dec 5, 2004 (got my ring on Dec 18) and are looking at July 7, 2007 (7-7-7) as a date. I just thought if it''s lucky in Vegas, why not for a wedding date!

This would put us at a little over 7 years together. Hey, another 7, it must be a sign.

This also gives me ALOT of time to prepare and plan (although it''s not going to be anything grandoise, just a beach wedding).

Thanks Lovey....I''m very excited. :) It means a lot to both of us to do both styles of wedding....a Hindu & Christian.

I imagine you have many unforgettable memories from Thailand. I can only imagine how spectacular it was to watch the "boats" float down the river each night. And yes, I would agree, it''s funny how things work out. When you least expect it, it comes round full circle. Any desire to have a part of the Buddhist tradition or ritual injected into your ceremony?

On a somewhat related note, is your host family OK? Do you still keep in contact with them?

Nooners..thanks for asking..my host family was not harmed by the tsunami. I have lost contact with many of my classmates so I''m not sure how it affected them. I lived inland, about a hour from Bangkok. Do you know people that were affected?

Yes, we plan on injecting some buddhist wisdom, humility and humor into our ceremony.

Lovey, good on you for injecting different elements into your ceremony! It sounds like it''s going to be beautiful! Very relieved to hear that your host family is safe! Some time I would love to hear a few of your stories from your experience there, if you would ever like to share. Actually I love hearing about amazing travel experiences in general. :)

Fortunately BF''s family is safe & sound. The area where they live was hit. As a matter of fact, we toured, drove & walked the areas that were hit when we visisted in November. Feel very blessed to have visisted over Thanksgiving & not Christmas.

Hello :)

Engaged: January 22, 2005
Wedding: May 27, 2006 (seems like a popular date :) We picked this date because my fiance''s parent''s got married on September 27 and my parents got married on April 27. Both couples are very happily married).
