I see that all of Whiteflash's ACA princess cuts have AGS 0 cut ratings so I recommended them to a friend.
I was surprised when he told me that their Expert Selection princess cuts that also have AGS 0 cut ratings.

I thought AGS 0 was a very narrow window of optimum cut angles already.
What exactly do you get for the extra price, 20% or so, of an ACA princess?

Has anyone seen ACA and ES princess cuts side by side?

Oh, and I'd rather have specifics than, "They are just better."
I love specs, specifics and details.

Do tell.

As I understand it, the ACAs are hand-selected by Brian "The Cutter" as the cream of the crop, because they meet very strict standards in terms of proportions and light return. While AGS also uses a very strict grading system, the ACAs are an even more strictly determined, smaller subset of AGS0. They also must be K or above in color, as well as SI2 or above in clarity and eye clean to WF's definition. Finally, they have no more than faint fluorescence.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those are the ACA criteria. Some of these are bits of info I heard on PS, and some I gathered from looking at lots of ACAs.

All of this may or may not translate into a visual difference to the naked eye. But if you buy an ACA, you know you're getting excellent cut quality, in the same way that HOF, Tiffany, Cartier, etc. mean quality. It's just quality at far less of a markup than some of these other brands.

All ACA stones meet AGS 0 criteria but not all AGS0 stones meet ACA criteria. AGS0 stones are still very safe bets in the world of princesses though.

So an ACA is to an ES as an AGS 0 is to a GIA Excellent? - a smaller bullseye within a larger bullseye?

So an ACA must be higher clarity and color, but my friend is considering a G VS2 or so.
Seems if he can find an ES he may get a super cut at a lower price.

I would say that''s pretty accurate IMO. ES stones are often very nice.

I may just be having trouble with the controls.

In the cases of Princesses...some of you may be confusing AGS certification with AGS0. I do see that...as with their rounds..for their Princesses...some go to AGS and some go to GIA. But...I believe that having a 0 from AGS is synonymous with being an ACA.

Can anyone show me a 0 that''s not an ACA...either Princess or round?

Actually...not sure if it''s just me...I can''t find one ACA Princess right now.

Regular guy (BTW, I always think of you as much above regular) I just looked on WF and found 3 ES princess cuts with AGS reports.
When I viewed the AGS reports they were the more-brief DQRs, which do not grade cut.

Hmm, my friend may have spoken to soon when saying ES princess can be AGS 0, perhaps he meant just AGS.

I thought that only stones cut by Brian and his team can be called ACAs, and even if there is an AGS0 with all the right numbers that was cut elsewhere, that stone is called expert slection. Maybe I''m wrong though.

Nope. Here is an ES stone that is an AGS0:

And so it is.

I''m guessing, though, it''s the exception that proves the rule (so to speak).

Reading here...I''m not seeing anything much about the character of the ACA Princess that is not associated with its having earned a 0.

I noticed that this is a 2006 report, what I am seeing is that all of the recent additions to the ES selection are DQRs, even for rounds. A cost cutting policy or maybe I am just not searching hard enough.
