Ballet Attire?

I get to go to the ballet! The Nutcracker.

I can't figure out what to wear. I know a lot of people go casual but that's not me. I'm not even casual for day to day wear. My theory is life is too short to wear jeans all the time. I want to wear a dress but I am unable to find a reasonably priced one. I was looking at ASOS, has anyone bought from them? I saw a lot of negative reviews so I was turned off but they have beautiful dresses. I don't want to rent a dress either.
