Jewelry Motivation

So I have noticed lately that there are so many designs both modern and antique and large and small and I am also changeable about spending money on jewelry now and think the motivation to obtain more has gone. I feel I am only interested now in sentimentality of jewlry. It is funny because I was wo...

Re: Help with tracking down a vendor from many years ago.

Yes niceice were a husband wife team too of todd and his late wife. I remember another whom I think were Canadian but can't remember their name. They were very nice and I always wondered if they were the same couple who used to come on QVC TV in the UK but never found out. All I remember is that I t...

At least that is good news. Lot of damage to store, glass, cases etc. Hope your staff will stay and not be frightened away after all this.

Re: Help with tracking down a vendor from many years ago.

Could it be Jan and Brad at Diamond brokers of Florida? I don't seem to remember them using idealscope though but they are a married couple.

Re: Upgrade Policies

Lifetime upgrades are good for the lifetime of the company. What happens in ten or fifteen years when the company no longer exists? Companies have to find ways of fighting for their share of the market. I don't know about the USA but in the UK diamonds are not big business like over there and they s...

Re: Upgrade Policies

I really wonder how many people get an independent appraiser to compare the diamond they are upgrading with the one they are ugrading to. Have many here done this? The appraisers are the experts where money value comes into play I suppose, the deal you have got is it good for what you are getting, i...

Re: Upgrade Policies

I think upgrade policies are good to get up to say 1 carat or so. However, we are told we do not know what goes into pricing, e.g. in the rapaport description on pricescope and on other posts. A lot of the cost of a diamond is in what the vendor bought it for and what their operational costs are. I ...

Re: Which of these 3?

3.081 is best cut. I would not buy an I or a J though. If I had to choose I would pick the I color and upgrade again to a G or H. There is no correct answer other than the one YOU choose for YOU.

Re: Review of Victor Canera + Alistair Kelsey (from Sydney)

I think the reason buyers get diamonds appraised no matter who they buy from is from the saying which was always on this board 'Trust buy verify'. Maybe one of the professional appraisers here could comment. I believe it covers everyone, the seller and buyer. I mean what if the jeweller phones the b...

So, if I could afford a higher color diamond with an eye clean lower clarity stone, I would put my money there rather than getting high clarity just becuase the color is high. As for a branded cut, truthfully there is a negligible difference in a very well cut XXX or AGS 000 and a branded cut. A di...

Re: OEC setting: Single-cut melee vs Full-cut melee

Single-cut have 16 facets, 8 on top and 8 below. Full cut have 58 facets. I have a ring with about 3 point single-cuts and can easily see the difference. Under a loupe anyone will see there are just 8 facets in the pavilion, bit like a cut sponge cake, also how some crystals are cut when you notice ...

Re: Help with a 5ct+ ring

For instance when we see people present their very poorly cut sometimes diamonds, well very poor in symmetry to Brian Gavin for him to analyse if they can be recut, it does not seem to cost very much to get them recut to look practically like those we see sold here under the idealscope and Asset. Re: Help with a 5ct+ ring

No, specialty cuts usually sell a little above RAP. The asscher was a killer deal..it sold for much less than it could have, partly because fluorescence is looked down on by many jewelers, and the seller wanted to get rid of it. It's not a fair comparison. Realistic pricing....5 ct I VVS asscher $9...

Re: Help with a 5ct+ ring

It looks great. Is the carat weight a lot more than 5 and half carats this time? Just wondering how this one could be $100k at I or J color VS, when the asscher was 5.33 H VS1 for under $60k! Pyramid, the asscher was strong blue fluor, and the seller was really motivated to get rid of it. Not a cus...

Re: Diamond jewelry - Caribbean islands

I am sorry I did not buy a lovely 1 and 1/2 carat GIA graded pink diamond ring they had a couple of years ago. It was a good buy then and would easily be double or even triple the price now. Wow, have pink diamonds really increased in price that much in two years, whilst colorless diamonds have dec...

Re: Do these sapphires in vintage ring look real?

I think that is natural silk we see in the centre stone - anyone else? This would mean real unless it has been faked to look like silk. The other thing is that it looks quite noticeable which may mean lower quality sapphire depending upon your pricepoint and how much it costs ofcourse.

Re: To Re-Certify or Not??? AGS or GIA ??

Re: To Re-Certify or Not??? AGS or GIA ??

Please read and re-read Paul Antwerp's post as this is the most useful reply you have. There is no point getting the diamond graded until you have a serious buyer. A buyer wants to see the diamond being processed as in being sent whilst they are interested to the lab. Otherwise it could be a fake di...

Re: Can my ring be repaired?

That's good as it's progress, rather than keeping going back to the jeweller because they say it is soft but they are in no way responsible in both what they said about the way the cathedral shoulder collapsed but also in truth if it was a manufacturing fault because they are not the manufacturer. I...

Re: Ways to re-wear your wedding jewelry

Have noticed brides with pears with a long drop pearl or ornament in the centre and often thought it could only look bridal, is this what you mean? Suppose it could be restrung without large pearl but then would not be the same necklace.
