After reviewing my notes, I was quoted $1,800 for 18K white gold from GOG... Is since1910.com a reputable company?

I worked with since1910 when I was helping my Ex's mother pic out an upgrade ering. We purchased the stone from JA and had it sent to since1910 for setting. since1910 was great to work with. They were great with communication and the entire process went very smoothly! The ring was gorgeous! I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again!

Are you sure you asked for white gold, because I am positive that was an error. GOG is where I got mine and platinum was $1800+. Call again and tell them you were given the platinum price and you want the white gold price.

I agree with DS, I would contact them to confirm the metal they quoted. When I got a quote for that setting in plat, it was around $1800, so I doubt it would be the same price for 18k wg.

I think it also depends on the size of the center stone. The larger the stone, the higher the price! That does sound like a good deal, though!

I will double-check, but I was quoted the following prices from GOG yesterday:

14K White Gold: $1,700
18K White Gold: $1,800
Platinum: $1,900

(Gold is currently selling for $200/ounce more than platinum)

Edit: I confirmed with GOG. These are their current prices. I also just found out that since1910 will set my stone at no additional cost.

Sorry! That is pretty crazy! The current prices come from Vatche, so I am suprised since1910 will sell at that lower price. Good for you, though!!!

DS, can you give me some insight on the shank? GOG advised me today again that it's not a knife edge, but a pinched shank. Are these one in the same? Thanks so much for any clarification!

Oh my goodness! I can only assume they are using different vocabulary...as in perhaps the person is not familiar with the term "knife edge" for a shank. If you are going through since1910, just say you want the traditional Tiffany knife edge shank. Several of us here have it...a few came from ID Jewelry and a couple from GOG and no one has had any trouble getting the right shank, thankfully!

I recently purchased the Vatche U113 in Platinum (5% ruthenium - they allow you to choose whatever alloy you want) from Sydney Rosen Jewelers in Philadelphia (Jeweler's Row) and they only charged $1680 with no tax if shipped out of state. Not sure what the 14k or 18k gold price is. They will set the stone for free or you can send your stone directly to Vatche for them to set it there. Shipping to your home (out of state) is about $35-$50, tax would be 7% if picked up in person.

I purchased an ACA from Whiteflash and had Sydney Rosen jewelers mail my stone to Vatche to have them set it. They will also do an appraisal for no additional charge.

Also just to note, the Vatche U113 does NOT have the Vatche brand stamp (the "U" apparently is for unbranded per Vatche). You can request Vatche to stamp it for you if you want.

I also asked to change the alloy to 900plat. So nice that they will do that! Good price, too! What size was your diamond?

(And anyone reading should note that you DO want the stone sent to Vatche to set.)

I am purchasing a diamond from james allen. I am struggling with the decision to either go with their tiffany replica (their handmade 6 prong knife edge in platinum) or to spend the extra 600 and hassle to go with the Vatche U113. Any opinions on this?

The James Allen looks really nice, but doesn't seem quite as elegant as the Vatche.

Thanks,
Omid

I'd spend the extra and get the Vatche, it'd be well worth the extra effort and time, IMO..

Yes, it was great of them to offer the alloy change! Our diamond is 1.31 ct./7.10 mm diameter.

HOLD UP. the Vatche U113 setting is sent to Vatche to be set? Regardless of who I buy it from? Or is that something I have to ask for? And why? Don't GOG or IDJ know how to set it?

I was quoted $1600+ for WG three years ago, so it's definitely possible... gold prices are pretty close to platinum now. ::)

Absolutely it is sent to Vatche. Most designers set the diamonds in settings. That way they have good quality control. If a local bench jeweler didn't do the prongs well, you'd be out of luck because Vatche would not take the ring back because someone else worked on the ring. The setting is made to fit your diamond and in your ring size. If your jeweler is not automatically sending it, then it is a red flag to me that they might just be trying to sell you a sample setting. Don't do it...have a new setting made by Vatche and have your stone sent to them to set. It has nothing to do with the competence of the jeweler who sells the setting.
