Hello all, what do you think of these? Your input will really help educate me about the stones that I am looking for and the vendors. I want to find a H&A or Ideal cut with the best contributing factors, with setting for $10K or under. I really want to hit the $8K price point at around 1.5c

Thanks for your help.

the 1.55 h/si2 is a virtual stone. you can tell because everything about it is the exact same. i would suggest when doing your searches to look by ''cut quality search'' or ''in house''. that way you are looking at stones that have been actually examined and approved by the vendor to have the best contributing factors.

I''m thinking this must be a virtual stone. Even so, it''s remarkably low priced. Is this a typo?

Have you been able to view the inclusion plot on any of the stones? With SI2s obvious inclusions like carbon spots can be a big concern.

What does virtual mean? The search was based on H&A cut only.

No typo on prices. I was taught that Clarity ratings are overrated and anything above I is OK. I won''t be carrying a scope with me so I don''t care about what I can''t see.

I''m looking for the best bang for $10K or less (pref around $8K) with Cut being number one factor, size second, color third, clarity, HCA, and then polish and symmetry last keeping in mind that HCA is correlated in some effect to all of these parameters.

hey chil,
virtual means that the same stone is listed by several vendors and they don''t actually have the stone in stock, it is still in the hands of the supplier.

Thanks RG. I have read this link a couple of times and also used the tools linked in the message.

This has been my experience over the last month so far (and I will try to make it short): Jumped on the Internet, learned about the general 4 C''s, what to look for, what not to. Had my heart set on using Blue Nile (at this time knowing that Cut was the most important) and then, I stumbled on to PS. It''s been pretty scary since then (not in a bad way). Here is what I think of PS so far:

The GOOD: Learned about how good GOG and WhiteFlash were, learned that I can save some money, learned about different setting styles, etc, etc, pictures, stats, wealth of information, and of course everyone on these boards who care about my impending decision!

The BAD: Too much information! The problem is that I just want a very nice, unique, Ideal Cut engagement ring for my girlfriend at a price point that I can afford. A lot of people on this site are "Experts" or at least consider them to be. Therefore, my mind is spinning from things like HCA, Culet, Crown, Table, etc. I have lower standards than the experts. If I can''t see the problems in a stone, I don''t really care whereas a sliver inclusion may bother the expert.

The UGLY: I''ve seen too many ladies talk about not accepting anything less than a X carats, X Color, and XX Clarity. That really makes me sick but also very grateful for the woman that I have.

With some exceptions, I think you generally get what you pay for. If you have most clearly in mind H, SI 2, and 1.5 - 1.7 carats, why not ask for help with this one...

and this one, from the search by cut database, and get substantive feedback from WF on the differences they find. Maybe you'll get a bargain after all!

Alternately, in doing so, consider whether you'd really go for option (b) after all, if WF is critical of option (a). Or, more precisely, given your admitted preference for a well cut diamond, consider how bad any of cut, color clarity you'd accept, before you hear their comments.

Anyway, this is the strategy I lay out in the link I suggested before. What do you think?
