I''m going to propose in 15 days. I want something very intimate between
just my girlfriend and myself. The next day, her family is having a party
and I figure we can share with ''everyone'' then. I want to linger on this
moment. I want to cherish it just between us. I''m a romantic!

I''m thinking of beach + sunset + dinner in Malibu but I''d really rather
prefer not to be in a corporate environment when I propose. We both
really dig the beach. I love sunset--almost as much as I do her.

I''m worried it will be coldish with a foggy twilight rather than an actual
sunset. If the sunset thing doesn''t work out, what do y''all think about
a garden or cliff-overlooking proposal?

It''s kind of simple but I firmly believe that asking my belle to be my
wife should be only heartfelt and real.

I''m attaching a pic of the fab necklace that will look so
amazingly beautiful on her. Then I figure fancy fancy special occasion
champagne ($$$) and a good yummie dinner somewhere romantic.

It''s different than other things I''ve seen here. What do you gals/guys
think?

Hello!

Congrats! I love the ideas you have, and Malibu is the most beautiful place. I think you can''t go wrong (i.e. beach, cliff, garden). Just make sure she is warm (warm=comfortable). Since you both do "dig" the beach, I would still do it there. Sometimes the sunset isn''t as important as the sounds, smell and "misty magic" of the ocean...

Where were you planning on taking her to dinner? I went to UCLA (''05) and know the area well so I am just wondering.
Also, are you giving the necklace instead of the traditional ring? Regardless, I must say, I love the necklace. Very unique!!!

Hey, UCLA Belle.

I''m also UCLAer. Thanks for the encouragement. On the
one hand I''m feeling a little lame because all these other
stories on this site are simply amazing. But they''re not
me! I think you''re right about the beach--it won''t matter
much about the sunset, though it would be nice. Being
chilly is a thing to keep in mind, especially since the
afternoons these days have been very cool.

I decided on the necklace because we discussed choosing
rings together. She''s from Northern Europe and there they
only do a wedding ring not both an engagement and a
wedding one. Also, I want the choosing of the rings to be
a fun activity.

Finally, she loves necklaces and this one is just so cool:
brushed sterling on a very fine sterling ''rope''; the drops
are Polish amber. Very contempo design. Very elegant.
It''s not as much $$bling$$ as a traditional ring would be
but it''s substantial. Plus, I''ve got matching ear rings to
give as a holiday present as well, just to spice things up!

I figured when it''s all said and done the proposal has to be
unique to our relationship and this is what feels right for
me.

Thanks, UCLABelle. I appreciate your support!

Oh, I was thinking Inn of the 7th Ray, actually. I''ve never
been there but I''m of the veggie+fish persuasion and my
belle is full on carnivore. There''ll be something for the
both of us. I just need to find out if they''ll allow me to
bring $$$ champagne from outside or if that would be
a faux pas...

I figure I should have posted the whole set--if I''m asking
advice from the board, the absolute LEAST I can do is to
show the bling, right?

[---]

My scheme is unfolding still: the newest twist is that I''m
looking in to a B&B on the coast for after the proposal
to change, freshen, etc. before heading off to dinner.
What do you think? It may be a more appropriate place
for $$$ champagne since alcohol is strictly not allowed
on the beach.

Opinions?

I also really like the B&B idea. There are lots of neat places in Malibu (or around there) to look at. You would easily be able to relax and enjoy everything there without having to drive back into LA (if that is where you are from). I also agree with the idea of picking the band out together. Very cute and on the safe side.

Keep us updated!
