Hi all, I am getting ready to purchase a diamond from the same jeweler I plan to purchase the setting. The diamond under discussion is :

1.60ct, F color, SI1 clarity, XXX, HCA score of 2.7 :-/ (is that a big negative since it is above 2)

I'd appreciate any feedback before I pull the trigger on this large purchase! The GIA is below.

Price is $13,800 USD

Unfortunately I do not have pictures of the diamond, but I did of course view it in person and it is eye-clean.

I appreciate any feedback, advice, confirmation that at the price it is a purchase that I am not get swindled LOL. Also appreciate any other comparative diamonds that anyone suggest I look at that is similar!

PSers typically recommend eliminating stones with scores of 2 or higher. That said, it was hard finding F SI1 stones at that size and at that price point, so the cut quality is probably why it's priced lower.

Here's a G SI1 1.70 at $13660, HCA 0.9

I'd ask for an Idealscope and/or ASET if possible to get an idea of cut quality and potential light leakage. I'd also want to verify that it was eye-clean based on your viewing standards.

Another G SI1 1.52 at $13899 but part of the Ascendancy collection, which has strict cut requirements. HCA 1.6

As a newbie to this whole process - isnt the cut quality for the one i posted at Excellent (GIA) - is there still questions about the cut quality that I could ask about or learn to be more educated.

The crown angle is a little high for that pavilion angle....though if you want to investigate it further, you'd really need and Idealscope image or ASET image of it to see what effects the 35.5 crown may be having on the 40.8 PA in terms of leakage...There's a lot of info on here on the GIA XXX conundrum if you search (i'll try to find something if I have time). In a nutshell, a stone can fall in to EX cut category, and still have performance issues (ie- a less than excellent PERFORMER).

Here's a video I found a few months ago that kind of encapsulates the idea...you can stop it an read the certs if that helps. It's all about the angles...
