Nice rendition of Mary Did You Know by a little girl named Asia Monet. I had never heard of her. Not sure how old she was when she did this, but she's only 11 now. Impressive.

Very nice gospel type version, Ellen. My daughter heard it from the next room and thought it was Rihanna singing. ;)) Thank you for sharing.

"The Cherry Tree Carol" is one of my favorite Christmas carols. My dilemma is always which version to post because there are so many beautiful ones recorded. I love this one by Mary Hopkin.

Deb...thanks for your input. It isn't Bing Crosby,'as the make singer I "hear in my head" has a much higher voice (tenor?) And the words/it is sung in Hawaiian.

You'd think it would be easy!

Well, Sharon, I found a huge number of Christmas songs from the South Pacific, many specifically from Hawaii, but not all of them were in Hawaiian and some of the ones in Hawaiian were clearly translations of songs like "Jingle Bells", so I ruled them out. Could this be it? It is "E Aloha E" by Brickwood Galuteria. I liked it a lot.

Deb--thanks for the links! It is not "my" song--but I loved listening to all the selections surrounding the you tube video you provided. I really like much of what I heard! Put me in a good mood (Island vibe....).

cheers--Sharon

I find myself getting nostalgic this year and wanting the Christmas music I remember as a kid growing up (1960s-1970s). I found a Pandora station, "Christmas Traditional", which has been scratching my seasonal itch.

This album (my parents had this and it was well played for many years) is one of those Firestone/Goodyear store albums that folks could pick up for $1.00! I don't know what happened to Mom and Dad's LP, but I picked up one of my own at an antique store. Never mind that I don't have a turntable to play it on; owning it was necessary.

I think Streisand's "Silent Night" is one of the most beautiful renditions, ever. And before Whitney Houston's 'Do You Hear What I Hear" blew everyone else's version out of the water, Andy Williams sang it here to classic perfection. But the best song on the LP might be Mahalia Jackson's "Away in the Manager".

it's really great to see you in this thread, Holly. When you don't show up until the end (right before Christmas), I start to worry that you are going to skip the thread entirely that year. Anyone who knows Pricescope well knows that you have always been a big part of this thread and that only in the past couple of years have you taken a less active role. If you didn't show up at all, I'd feel a serious loss!

About the turntable: I bought myself a little record player when I could only get a 45 RPM vinyl record of this song, introduced to me one year here on this thread.

Tiny threadjack (turns music down a smidgeon)

Because I know I can find you here right now Deb, you might want to take a look at the eternal "favorite gold designer" thread if you haven't been in there for a while. :)

(OK, turning the music back up now.)

I like having the Christmas music on at this time of the year. (And tomorrow night is also the first night of Chanukah as well as Christmas Eve.) However, I do have to post this link now. I never saw anything so exquisite, ksinger. It could only be improved by substituting a Burmese ruby for that blue sapphire. ;))

Hugs,
Deb

Love all the additions to this wonderful thread thank you everyone! I too love listening to Christmas music and this time of year gives me the perfect opportunity to do so. I would listen to Christmas music all year long if my dh let me LOL. 2 months is all he can take though. :cheeky:

I thought this year I might make one Chanukah addition though traditionally (IMO) Chanukah music is not nearly as catchy as Christmas music. It just isn't and well I never listen to it but did a search and found one “Don’t Let the Light Go Out" or aka "Light One Candle"...so for the adventurous PSers here you go. :wink2:

I absolutely love this! Each year this thread brings surprises. For me, this year, this song and some of the Hawaiian carols were a special treat. Thank you so much for sharing it, VRBeauty.

A day late but definitely not a dollar short. This video was sent to me by my friend who is a musician in the Nashville Symphony orchestra, The significance of which will become more apparent as he watch the video. This medley runs a little longer than most of the songs posted here, but I can pretty much guarantee that you'll be glad you watched it!

I just wrote a long posting about this that was eaten by the computer. I will not rewrite it. Suffice it to say: thank you, VRBeauty.

The first time I listened to this I noticed that it had been recorded first in Spanish and I listened to a Spanish version of it to see if it was better than the English one. To my surprise I preferred the English version to what I thought was the original version that made the song so enormously popular. After a while (i kept revisiting YouTube to listen to it), I realized that the Spanish version I had first listened to was not the original one. The original one is far more charming. So I am posting it, because I prefer it to the English version and I would like it to be available to people who read this thread. It is no wonder that it charmed everyone into buying it and having it translated into English, too!

We like many of the same things, missy. This version is just so charmingly Jewish (in my opinion). I am not surprised we both like it. Hugs. :wavey:
