Looking for a small green gemstone - need advice

Hi all,

New poster here. I am hoping someone can steer me in the right direction, since I've never bought loose gemstones off the internet before. I have two 4.8 x3.2mm (0.2ct) emerald baguettes from a family ring. I already had the central diamond from that ring reset into a simple white gold solitaire. I would now like to have the two emeralds set into a new yellow gold ring, with a new centre stone, in green.

I am looking for advice on what kind of stone would be best? I don't want it to be big - probably no more than 6 x4 mm or 6 x 6mm for a square cut, maybe a bit larger if it's a good price. Ideally I would like it to be an emerald cut or asscher cut. I don't love the sharp corners of a princess cut but maybe it would match better with the baguettes. It definitely needs to be square or rectangular.

My favorite so far is a green tourmaline - I like that it's a slightly more yellowy green than emerald. I would definitely like it to be a different color green to the emeralds. I haven't managed to find anywhere online that sells it in the size and shape I'm looking for though, and I'm a bit wary of eBay.

Anyone have any advice on where to find what I'm looking for? Recommended vendors? Alternatives to tourmaline?

Thanks in advance!

Yvonne Raley on etsy often carries stones in your size and cut preferences; right now I see a few tourmalines (some are part of a set -- you could have a pendant to match!) and an awesome bright tsavorite...

Square shapes are often hard to find in colored stones. Luckily, the material you're looking for should be plentiful and not too expensive! I would email someone to see if they have something that's not posted online or could do something custom. Prima Gems USA would probably be my first choice to find stock that's not listed online, or either Barry Bridgestock or Dan Stair for custom cutting.

Or maybe one of these could fit the bill?

http://www.acstones.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=10&idproduct=3035 - unusual shape but it's rectangular-ish
http://www.finewatergems.com/tourmaline.html - middle one - perhaps too bluish for you?
http://www.precisiongem.com/rapidcartproPG/index.php?product/page/50/gem-1611---tsavorite-garnet - a bit pricier than the others, but beautifully cut and very bright
http://thegemtrader.com/Aug14TsavoPage.htm - also more expensive as it's a tsavorite, and a bit bigger, but looks great

I think jstarfireb gave you some great options! I have one additional one. This is the first one I thought of when I saw you mention "yellowy-green" -- scroll down to the 1.07

I went straight to the tourmaline page so I missed that! Nice one!

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. In the meantime I've asked my jeweler to source some options in tourmaline and maybe green amethyst if she can get a vivid one. I'll see what she comes back with. Unfortunately the exchange rate is not in my favour right now (not in the US)
