Mrs VL passed today after 5 days in hospice. The cancer had metastasized to her brain. She fell a few weeks ago on the sidewalk and hit her head. There was a large chronic subdural hematoma on the left hemisphere.

Even when it's "expected", when someone finally passes it's still a tremendous shock. Because you can't really imagine the world without them, and then suddenly....it's like, hey - where did they go?

And your caring journey has been extremely long and stressful, I know that. I expect you must be just exhausted and shell-shocked. The strain of caring for a loved one throughout a terminal disease really can't be understated.

I expect you must just feel numb right now. I know it's probably impossible, but if you can manage to organize a modicum of good food and rest, you'll be doing your poor depleted mind and body a favor.

What a journey, VL. Reflect on what a comfort you were to her in her darkest hours. That is not to be underestimated.
