Please educate me on this ring!

I am to be given this ring which we belonged to my grandma, to redesign / take parts / trade etx as I wish. Time has come for me to start looking at acquiring an engagement ring to propose, of which I have learnt so much here.

Anyway, I would like to know as much information as possible on this ring, such as, style, cut, estimated carat weight, approx value, suspected metal type etc etc.

I think four of the small diamonds will be taken out to be given to my sister and other female cousins, however I think I will be going for a solitaire ring anyway.

No one can tell you anything from a photo. Have the stone unmounted for the most accuracy and take it to an INDEPENDENT appraiser which you can find here under resources. Or have it unmounted and go the the website for the GIA to see about submitting it yourself for a GIA cert which will tell you all needed info but takes time. An appraiser can usually do it while you are there.
