Good deal for a 1.2 ct. Internal Flawless?

Hey gang, I'm looking for a little assistance on the purchase of this stone. It is a 1.2 ct. IF color I with an HCA of 1.6. At $7,000 per carat, it seems like a great deal. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I would consider the following stones if it's not worth paying a premium for the IF:

I would strongly recommend going to H VS over an I IF. You can see the color difference but you cannot see the difference between VS1 and IF because both are going to look clean with a 10x loupe.

I wouldn't buy from any vendor who only lists a GIA report. You need to see magnified images of the stone and preferably and idealscope image to assess light performance. That I VS1 has a larger table than I like and it also has very strong fluorescence that would have to be evaluated. My stone has strong blue with no negative effects but I was buying from a vendor who could evaluate it for me. That IF stone also says "very good" for symmetry, and I wouldn't settle for less than excellent on symmetry.

Yes, all the vendors known here have access to all those diamonds, too! But some provide pictures and idealscope images which helps to choose a well cut stone, and the cut is the main key to the beauty of the stone. The downside of buying by certificate only is you may not get as well cut a stone as you could otherwise, but sticking to numbers that might yield you the possibility of a better stone is a wise idea.

The I VS2 is a 60/60 stone and I really think the crown of the diamond is diminished with a 60 crown. I try to stay between 54 and 58 because that is generally where most ideal cuts fall and allow a little more of the crown to show. But that stone has strong fluorescence which could be a good thing, but it needs to be examined by someone who can take it into various lighting to be sure it doesn't have a hazy appearance (which is rare). Fluorescence can be a plus in an I color because it tends to make the stone look whiter in some lighting. But this one does have excellent for cut,polish, and symmetry at least.

Thank you for the feedback! How do I find these stones anywhere else? I tried using the search above, but couldn't locate them. The cheapest 1.3 ct. VS1 I could find using the above search is $8,504.

For a second, you seemed hung up on buying from the 'bay. Good thing you're not locked into that!

I'd check with those sponsors (sans Blue Nile). White flash, Good old Gold, James Allen, Engagement Rings Direct... any of those vendors will get you live images of the stone, and most importantly, light performance imaging. Don't buy based off a cert! It tells you a lot, but it doesn't tell the whole story of the stone.

Oh, you've been given good advice about the clarity: skip the IF, VVSs and look at VS1s, maybe some VS2s. You'll save more $$ and you won't be able to really appreciate a higher clarity. I'd opt for a better color than I too.
