It's pretty DT. And the quality looks nice (I Like that you can zoom in). I'm not sure what my husband would think of it (or any of these for that matter, he tends to like the damask type patterns but I tend to like the more contemporary). I am afraid that anything with a pattern that bold with large empty spaces would show cat snags too easily though, that's why I try to stick with busier patterns.

Oddly enough the fish scales are growing on me. Price, quality, design is fun. Looks like it would feel nice (to me and to the cats!).

Oh that's right you have cats, how could I forget!! good point too about snagging (I'm a newbie cat owner...lol so I totally forget about those thing) . Ok, busier pattern, and maybe inbetween the damask/or contemporary look?.

Like you I love the contemporary look as well, and lucky for me, DH likes my taste so he goes along with whatever I buy for our home. The fish scales is pretty cool looking, I think you'll find one that will jump out at you.

How bout Transitional rugs? I feel they cross the contemporary line with a bit of whimsy. Type in Transitional rugs (in the search field of both Selectrugs, and RUGSUSA), and theres a ton of pattern that could merge both of your two design style?

Also both of these sites, usually have a max of 30% off coupon codes on their site or net. RugsUSA occasionally will have a 40% off coupon code available.

Yeah. I don't think DH would like the fish scales if I sent him the link... but I don't ALWAYS consult him on decor stuff. He has no idea what the new coffee table looks like.

I wonder what their phone customer service is like. If they have additional details about the colors of the rugs.

Well, I still haven't looked at Rugs USA so I'm going to look there now. DT you are a doll with all the help. Yeah, having 5 cats with distinct personalities and still having a home that doesn't look like a train wreck is a balancing act. I can't have fringe ANYTHING anywhere for example. And certain things (like chenille) snag too much to own.

But it's like having a kid friendly home... you adjust.

I do have a LOT of scratchers in the home of every size, material and style that you can imagine though, so it's really just Duncan that likes the rugs. A lot.

anytime Gypsy! I love RUGS!!! If I could have a rug in each room I would, I'm a bit of minimalist in decor, but I love rugs. DH, however, will put his foot down and limit the # of rugs I can have ;(

Okay so... The one I love is blue and silver. And as I am sick of cool blue shades, it's a no. YES! I am lucky this one doesn't come in silver and gray. http://www.selectrugs.com/rugdetails.aspx?id=33493&name=shibuish-1208_rug....

http://www.selectrugs.com/rugdetails.aspx?id=31617&name=sohosoh515a_rug.html Found a review of this one. It really is Gray. Not taupe. So, it's in the runnng. It doesn't excite me. But it's not offensive. I know... I know... I sound Soooooooooooo excited.

http://www.selectrugs.com/rugdetails.aspx?id=30908&name=essenceess7627_rug.html Nah.

http://www.selectrugs.com/rugdetails.aspx?id=32833&name=atlantisatl-6001_rug.html Growing on me, and my husband doesn't hate it. I don't know. I kinda like the fish scales. I haven't been able to find a review of it. And I think it will blend too much with the coffee table.

http://www.selectrugs.com/rugdetails.aspx?id=32855&name=basilicabsl-7111_rug.html Also blue and I'm not thrilled with the fibers so it's out.

Back to the drawing board.

Gypsy, I absolutely love your table and the Horchow rug is my fave! I was going to mention Surya rugs, but then I saw that you found the Surya rug that is the Horchow rug. They seem like nice rugs. I was looking at one a while ago for our living room, but we have cats and unfortunately one of them likes to occasionally scratch on the rug we have. Probably not going to happen for a while. You'll have to post photos of your room when it's finished. I love the colors you've chosen!

I love grey, so I would get the grey one of course.

Nice table by the way, very very nice. I had no idea Ethan Allen was having sale. I should.not.have.clicked.on.that.link.

Yeah, Ethan Allen is having a thing. I'm not sure it qualified as a sale as the discount is about 10% but it saved me sales tax on the coffee table.

Thanks for the comments on the table, I am really pleased with it. Especially since I found a couple designer ones almost identical to it for over double the cost.

The rug search is on going. I'll post pics when I have them (which will be a couple months as the couch and the table have 6-10 weeks delivery estimates).

you got a GREAT deal on it, trust me. I'm remodeling right now, and I right by my house there are two shops on Sunset and Melrose that make really "sishy" furniture that's all the rage right now, and I noticed a similar table at one priced $1,400 and another similar one for $1,650. I'll take pictures of it both the next time I go for a walk. You got a real good deal that will last you years.

Woo hoo! Love shopping for home stuff (as you know...).

I found this one at West Elm. Since J doesn't like contemorary stuff as much it might be out. Figured I'd throw it out there.

You can probably go check it out in person at the store in Emeryville.

Have you given Home Goods a whirl? They often have rugs for sale.

I quite like the textured look of the fish scale (Atlantis) rug!

I'll look around more when I get home tonight!

ETA: Checked out Home Decorator's Outlet (not sure if you hit up that on top of the Home Decorators).
Sadly, the smallest they have in the grey and red is 8x11 but I'll link anyway

Sorta wild
http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Aftershock_Area_Rug/150/Outlet/

Not quite the brighter reds you've been posting so far.
http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Arcade_Area_Rug/720/Outlet/

This might make you dizzy.

I love that one too. There is actually one very similar to it in a lovely grey. DH unfortunately didn't appreciate it.

Do you think the coffee table would get lost if I got the fish scales?

I'd be fine with a light grey/silver rug.

I was considering just this one... once it comes on sale again. I've had great experiences shopping with Horchow (and returning to them, which is more important) so... I tend to hit them first.

Both of these would provide contrast. C-- that definitely made me dizzy.

What do you guys think of this one? It's one of my front runners right now:

Gypsy, I really like this one! But I actually like the ivory color way of it as I feel it will give more contrast with the gray couch! I like the idea of a black/white rug with the new couch and coffee table! Have you thought about going with a black/white rug? I know home stuff is so personal.... :))

I'd love a run that is white mainly or ivory. But cat vomit and hair balls preclude it. The rug I have down now started out as ivory. It's now beige.

But there are a few rugs that I really like that are ivory base and maybe I can look into a steam cleaner for them. That one in ivory is stunning with the black. Wonder if that version of it would give DH a headache too.

Here's my advice, but I'm not a designer in any way. These are just my thoughts.

The fish scale rug is nice but it doesn't stand out to me. I like the idea of a rug having a stronger contrast, especially since your new couch is charcoal grey.

I actually really like the cherry blossom rug. http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod65520002&parentId=cat000018&masterId=cat6120733&index=91&cmCat=cat000000cat000046cat6120733cat000018

I do like this one too. http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/momeni-rd03/carbon/126RD03-5308.html

I think I'm getting hung up on the red. Are you leaning towards a grey rug? It seems like you are, even though you've posted a few red ones.

I want cranberry red. Cardinal Red, and trying to find a rug in that color that I like has been nearly impossible. I have found a ton of throws, pillows, and decor stuff in that color though, plus I have these gorgeous very high end silk poppies in that color. So I'm kind of just thinking that I can bring in plenty of red... and just leave the rug nuetral.

That Momeni Radiance is my front runner, the one you said you liked as well. I like it, my husband likes it. The only thing that's got me bothered is that it's pure synthetic. But if I found it for a good deal, I'd probably pull the trigger on it.

A lot of grey but pretty shade of blue too Really want a red accent and this one with the blue doesn't quite allow that : http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-america-4625/oxford-gray/2634625B-406.html

This one, which was linked to the blue one you posted as similar has potential though. What do you think? Not enough contrast? http://www.floorsandsurfaces.com/general/chandra-rugs-far-6208-faro-area-rug-gray_4448838.html

Clearly I suck at this. I'm trying though.

You know, I saw that last rug and I almost linked it but I hesitated. Not sure why. It's pretty. I think there's enough contrast, at least maybe more than some of the others.

Hey Gypsy, obviously I don't know your home style completely, but I'm gonna throw a couple of images out here for inspiration and see if they help at all. Obviously, some might be a little over the top, but when I design a room I always start with an inspiration pic. For me, I see grey/black/white/red. Grey couch, red accessories, and black/white rug. I hear you on the cat throwup issue so maybe if it is a mostly black rug that would help. I like the idea of keeping the rug neutral and play with colors in accessories. but I like the idea of a strong pattern in the rug! If you don't, that's fine too!!! :D It is your room!! Just thought I'd throw some ideas out there for you!!!

Oh I love those. That helps a lot.

I adore that first pic. I wish I had that much space. My living room is small. High ceilings though.

I think you might be right about the black and white. Let me see what I find. I would love an ivory base as long as it is something I can get a bissel steam cleaner for. So I'm there.

Hi Zoe, you do NOT suck at this. It's just that rugs are personal, like art. For me rugs ARE the art in the room. So I have to feel them. Thanks so much for all your help.

What do you guys think of this? I have loved it for a while but I kept thinking it's too expensive. But it's not, as long as there is another Horchow sale (or I can find it someplace else).

I did just have a nap to get rid of a headache and saw this rug in my living room in my dream. It has red... and orange (which would enable me to reuse some stuff I already own and love)

http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod74160004&parentId=cat000018&masterId=cat6120733&index=0&cmCat=cat000000cat000046cat6120733cat000018

If I can't find a black and white one. I might just go for that one (and a steam cleaner!).

I love the Momeni Radiance and the Cherry Blossom options. But I understand why you aren't enthused about a synthetic fiber.

Lizzy you've really inspired me with those pics you posted. I've been thinking of getting decals for my walls for a while. But you really crystalized it for me.

I have a wall with only my TV and entertainment on it. I think I'm going to order this decal for it. http://www.etsy.com/listing/61610209/4-birch-tree-set-with-birds-and-letters

Yeah, I had one synthetic once and it was very light. Almost like a rug woven entirely of silk and it felt lovely at first. But it really didn't wear well. After a few months it had curled up in the corners and never managed to lose any weird wrinkles it got from being rolled up when we moved or from being stuck under furniture. The thing I like about wool is that it bounces back very well.

Agreed! They do feel nice but wool and a natural backing will probably wear best.

Soooo no way you can strong-arm John into liking something more contemporary?? :Up_to_something:
