I was hoping you all could help me because I''m so confused! I got some great advice about which halo to go with, and where to find a sapphire. But so far I have had no luck finding a light pink sapphire. So at this point, I''m just looking for a beautiful sapphire.. I still don''t want blue.. and I would prefer a lighter pink (as opposed to the hot pink) but I''m getting ancy!

I was wondering what diameter I am looking for. I would like the sapphire to be about the same size as a 1 carat diamond. I know sapphires aren''t weighed the same as diamonds? So I''m unsure how to find a beautiful sparkly pink sapphire.

Can anyone help, I don''t mean to bother..

I found the site above but I''m still unsure what to look for.

Thank you !!

(by the way this is for engagement ring going into Michael M. Halo setting.)

If you mean a round brilliant then the size can be anywhere from 6-6.5mm depending on the angles used. Typically a 6.2mm standard round brilliant will be a one carat stone in sapphire. I hope that helps

This is a pretty color, but not sure it is large enough for your setting.

Oooh thank you.. while I''ve been looking for sapphires... I have another question.

Would a spinel work as an engagement ring stone? I''ve seen a few with the light pink color I''m looking for. Would a spinel sparkle next to diamonds? Sorry if that''s a dumb question!

Spinel could work very well as an e-ring stone cause it''s one of the most durable stones you can find. It can also be very sparkly (in theory even more so than a sapphire), but things like clarity and cut will have a major impact on that. I wouldn''t suggest tourmalines for e-rings unless you don''t plan on wearing it too often and have no problem paying more attention to not hitting it around during wear.

If you don't use sapphire, then spinel would be the next best choice. They hold up very well with diamonds and can typically be a bit cheaper than a sapphire as well.

By your OP, I would guess about a 6-6.5mm stone would be about the size you're wanting. Have you measured the size of the setting to see what it takes? Colored stones can be cut a bit on the deeper side and if the setting has a basket, you really need to also check how deep the stone is cut so that it sits correctly.

Just so you have an idea of the color spinels, I would check a few places to get a feel for what you really want.

Dana over at mastercutgems has some. http://mastercutgems.com/index.php?page=view&cat=250 If you can't find what you want, you can always ask him if he has it.

I'd also check Gene too. he's got a few that may meet your color requirement but might not on shape/size

I think spinels, when cut well, sparkle more and have more fire than sapphires. The great part is that they're all untreated (as far as I know) and much less expensive than pink sapphires.

. They're slightly less durable, but still very durable if you're careful. I wear a spinel ring every day because I can't stop staring at it. It's not top color, but boy, does it sparkle like no tomorrow, and since it's a violet spinel, I get lots of blue and some pink flashes from it. If you're looking for a pink spinel, I would try to find ones that aren't overly brown or grey. They can be. However, if pure sparkle is what you're after, a well cut spinel sparkles like nothing else.
