Hey ladies! I''m bored and I''m not sure if there was already a thread on this --- But I was just wondering what everyone does for work? What''s your occupation?

Or if you''re currently a student, what are you going to school for?

I work for a health insurance company coordinating our member''s benefits. Sounds interesting? Maybe? Yeah, it''s not, really. It pays the bills though.

In the introduce yourself thread most people have posted their occupations. I''m a vet student and D is an architect.

I work in an obscure area of international tax consulting, which usually brings conversations to a grinding halt when someone asks at a cocktail party. And the BF is an environmental scientist- also a consultant.

I've done a lot of things in my adult working life - bartender, manager of a Fortune 500's catalog production department, graphic artist. Being that I started working full-time at 17 and am 39 now, you're talking a lot of time to play with careers! I now work as the Assistant to the Marketing and Business Development Director for a small technology R&D company. This company has less than 50 people and is mostly PhD's and research scientists. Things I do all day include technology research, editing white papers, updating the website and intranet, planning trade shows and conference appearances and doing drawings for patent applications (I have to illustrate concepts).

Could I be doing "more" with my education and experience? Sure. But this job pays me enough to cover my bills with a little extra left over and it doesn't occupy my life so completely (and corporate jobs - they own you) where I have no time for my 8 year old son. Plus, I like working with science/geek types, because they don't have the pettiness that I've experienced in office environments. My boss is very geeky (engineer), so I also don't get a lot of the power-play type behavior that I experienced from bosses when I did corporate work. Just this morning, we were talking about the cool eclipse from last night and the government's shooting down of the kaput satellite.

When my son gets older and I get more money set aside, I want to go back to school for my Masters and teaching certificate so I can teach art to high schoolers or adult ed students. Art is my first love, though I have a business degree as well (Marketing).

My BF has his own contracting business and is a musician. He's had his band for 20+ years and does recording type/sit-in projects on the side.

Bridget in Connecticut.

I''m currently a grad student, but normally I''m a teacher. I''ve taught various instrumental music groups of students aged 5-40 for 10 years, and have worked in special education for 2 years (overlapping the music years). My master''s degree will be in special ed, and my bachelor''s was in music ed.

I am a Marketing Coordinator at a Harley-Davidson dealership. It is so much fun, great people to work with and I help organize our events and promotions. It is great! I am also a student full time so it keeps me busy. My SO is a Quality Tech/Engineer at an outboard motor company.

I'm Head of Fundraising for a major political party in the UK - I'm also an elected representative for my part of London.

However, my background and qualifications are in textile and jewellery design, which I still do on the side (to get away from politics!)

My best friend from high school wants to get into equine massage therapy. What''s it like?

I''m currently a student majoring in Psychology, formerly but probably in the future I will be involved in the food industry. Mostly likely having something to do with wedding cakes.

BF, D, is a PhD student in a Social Science. He''ll either work for the government or be a professor when he''s done.

You have my dream job! I''m currently in my Peds/OB semester of nursing school and am having troubles deciding between Mother Baby and L&D.. I think my problem right now is that L&D slightly intimidates me, but I think it''s what I really really want to do.. Any advice!? lol

I was going to be a Japanese major, buuut didn't work out like I planned because I transferred schools and my course placement got screwed up. I am thinking about law school, did anyone go or is anyone going? If you did or are going any advice on how to pay for it? I'd love to talk to you, always looking for advice about law school.

I say go for L&D but I''m biased

I started off in L&D right out of nursing school since there was an internship. Originally I wanted to do NICU but there was no internship at the time- now I can''t imagine doing NICU! I floated to Mother/baby while I was working at a hospital in Maine. It''s far from my favorite thing to do but it''s tolerable. I just find L&D exciting and get bored with M/B. Now I''m back to just labor again and it''s great. Oh, and I *despise* peds! I could never do it and I have 2 kids!
And yes, L&D can be intimidating. But it''s so fun (except for the bad days) and every shift is different! Feel free to email me if I can answer any questions for you!

L&D is fun??? You can still say that after having given birth to two kids??

Sorry for the thread-jack.

I''m a retired high school English and French teacher. I loved working with teenagers, and in the early years was given "the tough ones"; even better!!

I went to law school but didn''t finish, here''s my advice on how to pay: Don''t go unless you get a full ride, which is what I did and I''m so grateful because then I didn''t feel stuck staying there when I realized it wasn''t for me.

I''m a high school English teacher, and I love it, but the truth is I really just want to be a student forever. I''m also a reading specialist, so I teach lit and reading. FI is a muscle specialist, he has a master''s in OT and then specialized. We both love our jobs very much.
