I am looking for a blue sapphire engagement ring and need help. Ideally I am looking for a three stone platinum setting with a blue sapphire center stone and diamonds on the sides. My budget is about $5500. I am looking ofr quality rather than quantity so;

What can I get for my budget as far as size and quality are concerned?

What kind of sapphire should I look for?

What kind of CCCC for the diamonds?

Would you recommend a jeweler?

I would appreciate all the help that I can get. Once again, I much rather suffice for a 1 ct sapphire rather than 2 for quality.

Thanks.

I like that setting but the stone seems to be light in color. Do you agree?

Depends on if they are heat treated or totally natural.

Did you click on the video? It depends on if you want a medium light sapphire or a dark sapphire.

The ones from The natural sapphire company are not heat treated. I love number 3. Perfect color.

I would:

Check out the NSC

Check out Palagems

Call Wink and get him to find me a great one and then get him to set it with some of those nice Infinity diamonds he can get his paws on.

I have a heat treaded sapphire cushion cut that is almost 4 cts with premium color & clarity. I think I paid in the area of $3,000 for it (max). I think it depends a lot on who you buy through too.

Who did you buy it from? I am getting a quaote of about $1200 a carat for the above two(heat treated) sapphires.

I bought it through a diamond dealer in my area. They don''t even usually get or deal in colored stones. But I know the stone came from Stuller. If you look on Stuller''s site I think you can find something you like and have a local dealer get it in for you.

It is lighter than some, but it really depends on what tone you are looking for. I gather from your response that you like the darker stones...

Also, what shape are you leaning towards? Both of those things would help us narrow the search...

I favour radiant or cushion stones. As far as color is concerned, I like the medium blues that have a strong presence and brilliance.

Thanks.

Which one would you guys pick?

That second choice, the cushion sapphire from NSC is a gorgeous blue. That''d be my choice as the wearer (without knowing ANYTHING about sapphires other than "I like what I see").

You could put it in platinum with half moon sides.

It all depends on how you want to balance it. I think for a heat treated sapphire, probably 2 carats is very doable.

What kind of sapphire should I look for?
There are many considerations:
1. cutting quality (extinction, windowing, facet points, etc.)
2. colour (saturation, tone, hue, zoning, etc.)
3. clarity
4. carat weight or size
5. Treatment (only heat treatment is acceptable)
6. Country of origin (some people are particular but most aren''t)

What kind of CCCC for the diamonds?
I don''t fully understand your question.

Would you recommend a jeweler?
NSC is a good place to start your search. I would also try:
Wink of www.winkjones.com
Gary Dutton of
www.diamondexpert.com
Barbara of
www.acstones.com
Jeff White of www.whitesgems.com
Lembeck Gems in NYC:

Absolutely!

Thanks.
Singspiel, I hope I''m not too late.
