Mini Update:
We approved the wax of our setting today. bf is a little nervous that the X on the profile may be skinnier than the one we based the design off of, but he can be a worry-wort and I tried to take into account that we were looking at a wax. not a CAD or something in metal. But even if the setting looks exactly as it did today (minus the blue color) I will be thrilled!
Funny story:
We were out with another couple (friends of ours) today and they just bought a diamond solitaire ering from kay or something like that (probably less than a quarter carat or so). She kind of pressured him into buying it in the first place and in her own words ''it''s WAY too small... but he says he can''t afford anything bigger''. Brat.
Anywho, she made some remark about how we (bf and I) SHOULD be engaged already... ''after all, jay and I have been together twice as long as her and her bf''.
Her bf said ''well I don''t think that jay has $400+ lying around to buy a ring''. (rude!)
Now, we are very private about money. The friends we were with have no idea what so ever what our income is and we haven''t told anyone accept jay''s aunt and one of my friends that we are even TALKING about engagement, let alone that bf purchased a ring.
Jay and I just looked at each other and he just said ''yeah. you''re probably right. erings are very expensive''
$400? Now, I''m not knocking a small budget or anything.. if all jay could afford was a twist tie with a piece of plastic glued to it, I''d love him all the same. But If that couple knew how much our setting alone cost jay (not that it''s astronomical, we got a really good deal)... I''m pretty sure they''d pee themselves.
Jay and I are actually semi worried now that there may be some jealousy when she sees my ring. She is very pushy and doesn''t really take other peoples feelings into consideration and bf and I are afraid that she may make her bf feel bad about not being able to afford a bigger one, especially judging by the comment she made today.... .81 may not be huge in PS, but it is substantially larger than the diamonds that my friends and co-workers have.
Has anyone else run into this problem (jealous friends)??
I sooo agree! Please don''t let your friends take away from YOUR special time! You owe no one apologies about the size of your ring. As to your dilemma, some people can be so rude and tactless. K and I are also very private people so I understand how their comments would offend and irk you. I have to say, you and your BF handled the situation very well. I have dealt with a similar situation from none other than my sister. We''re very close and I love her to pieces but she has some jealousy issues that come out every now and then. Her and my BIL got engaged only a year after dating and married less than a year after that. She really wanted to get engaged and married quickly - that was just her prerogative. So as a result she has a very nice (but small) engagement ring. I think it''s 1/3 carat. She was always quick to remark that she thought it was stupid for K and I to get a ''big'' diamond. When she saw my ering for the first time on Friday (right after he proposed), she said ''Oh wow, it looks so fake'' She actually repeated this twice. We have it on video. Nice. Then yesterday she starts complaining to my BIL about her ring (which is actually quite pretty), saying how on their 10 year anniversary she WILL be getting an upgrade. My BIL looks at her like ''huh? this is news to me''
So the way I see it is some people are always going to find ways to put you down to make themselves feel better. Try not to let it get to you. Trust me, I know how hard that can be. Just stay classy. You will have a beautiful ering and know that your BF put the time and effort into getting something that would make you both happy. That''s what matters.
