So good to see you back, VapidLapid. I'm another one who'd love to hear about your stay in Cremona and your master class. Another Stradivarius in the making?
Cremona is a strange town. I have a horrible car from hertz, driving here is humiliatng without cause, other than being the stupido americano. I had a week before Cremona Musica started to acclimate, the change from before Mondomusica to now has been dramatic. Every Maestro and maestro wannabe are here and evey huckster who would fleece them as well.
Museo del violino is new and feels sterile like the big galleries in Chelsea. However the presentation can't undo the content. It would be nice to have better lighting; everything is under glass. I want to tap on every piece of wood, so I guess they saw me comming.
I bought a lot of Austrian spruce and some gnarly bird eye maple.
Class is taught by roger sadusky, michael gurion and jean larrive'
Once we were able to start grilling them it got better, there was a rather inauspicious start.
I am suffering jetlag that wont resolve. Ive lost ten pounds here in a week! I am listening to the Kepler Quartet and totally loving it, but it is not everyones cup of noise.
I hope my pictures can speak for me as i am having linguistic fatigue between my ok German, poor French , and wretched English; my Italian is a negatve balance
The two gentlemen of Cremona are luthiers who own the Bottega di Liutheria in my first pic. They are the nicest of the people in Cremona. Their restaurant recommendation was perfect. Their instruments are extraordinary!
It is great to hear from you, VL. You are such an intelligent and cultured man. Learning something about you is always fascinating. I do not know how you have accrued so much knowledge of so many fields in your lifetime; you are a Renaissance man. I am glad you are having some fun.
Please keep the photos coming, VL...I showed them to my husband, and he loves them. He's really into handmade guitars and appreciates the beautiful workmanship.
I love this instrument. The grain, the shape, the color. I want to bathe in it.
I love excellent guitar tone. It's a rare thing. I don't know much about guitars themselves, but I do know extraordinary objects (which is why my house is so full). They have a completeness that lesser things do not have. This is one of those things.
