I hope whoever gets them will wear them and we'll be able to see them more often. I'm glad the money is going to a good cause.

Okay okay ladies, I won't buy the Krupp.

BTW, here's a link to FBI files about the Krupp's 1959 robbery (before Liz got it.)

Partial snip:
All that changed the evening of April 10, 1959, on her sprawling ranch about twenty-six miles southwest of Las Vegas.
She and her foreman were finishing dinner when three men knocked on the door offering to blacktop her long driveway.
Within seconds they’d forced their way in, ripped the ring off Krupp's finger (to the point of drawing blood) and tied the pair blindfolded back-to-back with wire from a lamp.

What a lucky thing it hadn't been re-cut. If it had been sold again, somebody was bound to have done that in order to wear or sell it w/out being nailed. Like the Hope Diamond, which now has a good-sized window due to the French Blue's having been re-cut & made shallower.

I don't think it's sad to see ET's jewels go to auction. She wanted it done, put it in her will. It's always a jolt to see a collection of anything top-quality broken up, but it's also a chance for many others to love the items. Just as it wasn't sad when ET got the Krupp diamond after its owner died, it won't be for its next "keeper" to acquire it. And yes, the proceeds go to a very good cause.

so burton paid about $9100 per carat for the krupp. What will it go for now, perhaps 250,000 per carat?

I told DH that her jewelry collection was being auctioned, and he said "You're staying home that night!"

LGK, I wish we had a "like" button.

I hope they post closeup photos online to look at before the auction.
