I know they are a unique breed of cats but I don''t know anyone else that has one except for me and the breeder I got him from. His name is Tini, he is 5 and 1/2 and he is precious. We call him our cat/monkey/dog. He''s friendly and scociable with some very unique behaviours. I''ve attached a few pictures for your viewing pleasure. They are taken from my camera phone, at the moment I can''t find my real camera''s battery charger, grrrrr.

Awww! Aren''t the originally from South America, like the hairless dogs?

Is it hard to keep him warm/do you have little kitty sweaters?

All the information that I found when I was looking for a breeder years ago said that the breed is a genetic mutation of a Canadian Farm Cat. I''m not an expert at all but that it the story I tell. I love those little Chinese Crested Hairless dogs but my SO says that I''m only allowed one strange looking animal. LOL!

STRM...yes, my cat acts like that too. We swear sometimes that he is a puppy, he fetches, the whole nine. When we have guests over he will run right up to them and sit in thier lap or demand that they play with him. He rarley hides from anything and he will walk outside on his leash.

What a sweetie! We don''t have one, but, we considered one when we were looking for a cat a few months ago. Everything I read about them said that they had fabulous personalities. I can see from the pics that yours does! Is his skin difficult to take care of? I read that it could be.

I adore them - they have such lovely little alien faces and BIG ears!

I like all my animals with long pointy faces and big ears and feet

I really wanted one of them, but FI is so allergic we can''t. (Allergic to an enzyme in the saliva, so even hairless doesn''t work
15.gif
)

What sort of miaow do they have - is it a mew sound like most cats or do they shout at you like siamese?

Tell us more about what they feel like!

Just out of curiosity are they expensive? (if you don''t want to answer just ignore this question
2.gif
)

He is so cool, and sounds so neat that he has "dog traits" maybe this will have to be my next kitty... ya know, since the FI is a canine lover...

I promise that when I find my camera battery charger (we just moved), I will send some more pictures. I have lots of them, just all on the camera.

Unusual behaviors and antics:
1.) Falls asleep standing up
2.) He "winks"
3.) He does a long double eye blink when he is tired
4.) He will bring you his toys when he wants to play (just like a dog)
5.) He rolls over. This one needs a little explanation...When he wants to play and you try and pet him he will roll over. I wish I had a video tape, its hysterical.
6.) When I am on the computer he will sit on my lap and put his head on the keyboard so that I can''t type.
7.) He will bump and rub up against you when you are not paying attention to him.
8.) He follows you around like a dog
9.) He does this barking thing at the laser pointer...it kind of sounds like yap, yap, yap...its really weird but funny at the same time.
10.) If you are a guest and you don''t like cats, he will pick you out and make you pet him. One time one of my friends was over that didn''t like animals, the cat would not leave her alone. Finally, he was sitting on the ledge of the couch staring at her and he hit her on the side of the face. You know, a kitty hit. We were dying with laughter...even she was.

I have to think of some more.

As far as his miaows go...it dedpends on his mood. When I just get home from work, he yells. When he wants to play he will talk back to you but its not as long of a meow. If he is not feeling well it becomes lower and more drawn out. If he gets locked out of the bedroom, you would think he was dying. When we come home at night you can here him come to the door and whine. Its cute but sometimes annoying if you have something to do.

I bathe him once a week to every three days depending on how dirty he is. I feed him only organic food from a specific farm in Texas that the breeder I got him from told me about. She used them too and said that it really helped to keep their skin less oily. She was right because when he was a little sick I had to feed him some wet food and seriously had to give him a bath the next day. Durring the summer I seem to wash him a bit more. I live in NYC and we keep our sliding glass doors open most of the time and he gets dirty from the sun (sweat, I persume) and all the crap that comes in from the outside. Overall his skin is great. I''ve been going to the same vet for the past 3 years and he tells me, everytime that I am there, that he has the nicest skin. I got this great tearless dog shampoo a few years back down at a small pet groomer in the east village and I swear it works wonders.

The most annoying thing the cat does is chew. He is like a dog, I swear. Ruined quite a few pairs of shoes including the straps on a pair of Louboutins and a marc jacobs purse, errrr. That was a few years ago. Now, I''m in the habit of making sure all those nice things are out of his reach. Now, he was this scratch mat that is shaped like a mouse. Instead of using it for scratching, he chews the ends of it off. He will tear through a toy in a day. He does it before he eats. The vet thought that it may be that he needed his teath cleaned, so I got them cleaned. That wasn''t it. Thankfully, he does not scratch the furniture or jump on the counters or anything. However, he does not have any wiskers and I think that accounts for his clumbsiness. He often misses when he trys to jump on the couch, which is not that tall. He''s funny. He''s great with his claws too. I cut them myself and he doesn''t really use them.

I promise, I''ll get some more pics out to you soon.

My mom is allergic too. When she visits the kitty has to sleep in my room. I''m only allergic to hair so it worked out perfect for me. Although, when I first got him it bothered me a little bit, but I must have grown out of it or something.

The feel like a hot water bottle that is covered with peach fuzz. My boyfriend says that he feels like a "shark". What? When do people get to feel sharks? When we were in the caymans we went swiming with the stingrays and there is a similarity. I still think that comment is weird.

ahh I love him! He is too cute!! Can I ask you about the allergy thing? How did you/Pandora know about what it was that triggers your allergies? My BF is really allergic, but I love cats. Seems like this may be a loophole
11.gif
. My mom had one once, and it ate with its paws! Yours sounds so fun. Thanks for the info, can''t wait for the pics!

His personality sounds great! What a character! Do you put sunscreen on his little body to prevent burning?

As far as my allergy goes, I called the breeder and made sure I visited the "cattery" before I made a deposit. I wanted to make sure that she was rasing them without kennels and the such and I also wanted to make sure I wasn''t allergic. I don''t know if it would have mattered if I was because as soon as I saw my little one, I was going to get him. I think I made a deposit that day. As far as pricing goes, yeah, they are a little expensive, however, I got him over 5 years ago. I''m not sure how much they go for now. I also am not planning to breed him and pets are much less expensive than show/ to breed cats.

Nope, no sunscreen. He hasn''t burned himself yet, I asked the vet and he said that I didn''t need to. I''m going to ask again though, I''ve gotten this question twice in the past week. Time to ask again I guess.

I got my FI an appointment with the allergy specialist at one of the really big hospitals here in London who did loads of tests.

He came out severely allergic to horses, then dogs, then cat saliva, then rats, hamsters and mice.

Hedgehogs are pretty hypoallergenic so no problems at all. Ferrets also seem to be okay.

There is a US company called Allerca that is interbreeding cats with very low levels of the enzyme (most people are actually allergic to that not the hair - the hair just carries the saliva from when the cat licks itself). However, they cost $8,000 if I remember correctly and there is a 2 year waiting list

I would so so love a sphynx. My parents breed siamese and I love them too - but a peach fuzz coated hotwater bottle...

Yeah, that comany Allerca is headed up by a well-known con man. There was a story in the news just this week about the fact that he refuses to release ANY information about the cats for peer review on his science. There are several other legit companies doing research to develop truly anti-allergenic cats and none have managed the breaththrough this guy claims to have...and they''re all willing to share their science. Very suspicious, to say the least.

My cat does the same thing... she goes NUTS for the laser pointer and does that chattering... she also does it when she is looking at birds out the window... there is this one hummingbird that likes to taunt her... like "na na na na you cant get me"... drives the kitty nuts! LOL

Yes I read the stuff on Allerca too - sounds very dodgy to me.

On the other hand, a friend of my dad''s is working on some thing where they remove the histamine from YOUR body. It''s mainly being developed because of peanut allergies etc where people go into anaphylactic shock.

It seems that you don''t actually ''need'' histamine - that''s a lot of the research, seeing if we need it - and would be great for people with ''socially difficult'' allergies like animals, dust mites etc as well as those with lifethreatening ones.

The injections are pretty dangerous and it''s 99% impossible to get them in the UK now, so I''m really hoping they''ll come up with something as we''d love a cat (and I want one of these cuties!)

I tried to talk FI into trying hookworms, which I understand work quite well, but he''s way too squeamish unlike moi! I might just get him some without telling him.
