So I have a nice ring mount just waiting for the right stone to finish it off. I previously purchased a chrysoberyl for it, but I'm not too crazy about the yellow. I had DH play with it last night along with a bunch of loose stones, and he thinks it needs something green. Any good green stones out there in a 5-6mm round shape? This will be a "once in a while" ring, so I'm not too concerned with durability. This tourmaline is along the lines of what I'm looking for, but not sure if the octagon shape will fit the prongs. http://www.customgemstones.com/TOURMALINE/to1520.html

Another shot of the ring with the chrysoberyl sitting on top. Other color ideas would be appreciated too! The ring had a diamond in it originally, and the white stone just got lost. I thought it needed something bright to really pop.

It's difficult to tell whether the prongs are in the right position or not BUT what I can tell you is that even if they were, you would be left with a number of corners exposed on the gem - as it's a Tourmaline, that's not a good idea.

That looks to me like a ring begging for a tsavorite ;-)

Last I heard, Jaimeen at Prima Gems had some very nice ones in that 5-6mm calibrated round range...

OOhhhh I like that one GregS! My only concern would be, is it going to go dark?

Multicolour describes the stone as "medium" not "medium-dark", and it'll have plenty of exposure in the setting - I think it'd look great :)

Don't know enough about settings to be sure about that cushion, but it looks very nice!

I'm very sure the Dan Stair tourmaline will fit but it will go on the smooth part, leaving the points exposed, which isn't recommended in a ring.

The Multicolour tsavorite's medium green sounds just perfect and shouldn't go dark in your setting.
Chrome tourmalines are typically dark to very dark so I would ask Jaimeen how dark it is, even though it looks promising in the picture.
The cut on the Multicolour peridot is so pretty!

Thank you LD! I'll go through these tonight with DH and see if we can agree on one.

Hmm, peridot might be interesting, but if I go that route I'd want to get one from AZ (where we live).

Interestingly I tried to find a nice Peridot for you and all the ones I found had a great amount of yellow. I wasn't sure that would be enough of a difference for you from the Chrysoberyl. I have a Chinese Peridot that is much more green and I wanted to find something like that for you but didn't come across one but they must be out there!

Not sure if this is too pale for you, but Gary has a nice little Afghan tourm: http://www.finewatergems.com/tourmaline.html

Or you could ask Barry about cutting you a nice little green tourmaline, or see what comes up in his next drop. He often has pretty stones in this size range.

I think a green garnet will be a great fit - bright colour and lots of sparkle.

I agree - and this might be an interesting one:

Or on this page there is a nice looking one. Don't know much about the vendor though.

Edited to add: Omg, so sorry, just remembered that you have a size limit. These are probably too big, my apologies!

I showed DH a bunch of pics, and he really likes the color of this chrome tourmaline. I do think I need a round and not a cushion to be safe and have it fit though.

The garnet from multicolor (http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?-318282399), DH didn't like the black ring, is that a camera reflection, or would that be visible in person?

That dark ring might go away as the stone is moved around. I suspect it could be the shadow cast from the camera during the photography. Best to contact Multicolour and ask for a hand shot.
