Aw Italia, definitely a somewhat strange situation, and IMO I think sil could have filled you in about not being invited, but maybe she was caught off guard and just didn't know what to say, or how to say it. Here's the thing - you said your mil covertly got the list...there's a chance you may still get an invite, since sil doesn't know that you know you weren't on the list! (I apologize for that totally confusing sentence, hope you understand what I mean!) At any rate, I too think it's a good idea to send the recipe box as a wedding gift, it sounds like a lovely gift. This family stuff really gets goofy sometimes, doesn't it?
