getting lost in stupid stuff

Thanks for your support SB and VC10um. I will definitely ask him now.

On the good news front, I got our hotel room booked for us and blocked off rooms for OOT guests. I plan to stay in the room myself the night before our wedding, and then Mr. Sterling and I will be in that same room together on our wedding night. I booked a swanky corner loft so that there's enough room for me, my MOH, my bridesmaid, and my mom to all get dressed and get our hair done in the room the morning of the wedding.

How's this for getting lost in the stupid stuff? Last night I was at Office Depot getting colored copies for my save the date flyer. I spend a good 10 minutes debating whether or not to upgrade to the glossy paper. I asked my BF (who is actually into all this wedding stuff and has been very involved) and he looked at me like I was insane.

FMS...a corner loft room sounds lovely! Hopefully there will be lots of light for awesome pre-ceremony pictures!

amc...I totally giggled at the visual of you and your FI debating the merits of glossy paper at Office Depot.

Lots of good stuff here! Wonderful news on the hotel front for both vc and FMS! Won't it be fun to get ready with the girls before the wedding?!? I'm so looking forward to that. We have a suite at the hotel starting on Thursday, but I don't think we get anything as cool as rose petals! But I do think we're going to sleep together at the hotel before the wedding, too. He's very cuddly.

amc, that's delightful. I can only imagine the look on his face...

Today I *think* I found our ties -- it's been a struggle. It's a gorgeous purple paisley with a bit of yellowy-gold running through it. And sooo cheap! I was only able to buy 3, though, and it isn't online. There is one at Tyson's Corner so I'm hoping my MOH can go pick it up! Fingers crossed!

SB, any update on the ties??? I'm sure your MOH went to Tyson's...lemme know if she needs backup!

My updates: I called the David's Bridal in Kansas City to see if they would steam my dress for me after we arrive (since, yanno, I gotta take the dang thing on an airplane a couple days before the wedding)...apparently they will not steam a dress if anyone else has done alterations to it. Well, I'm having cups put in and my bustle done by the best seamstress in NoVa. So yeah...can't take it to them. So I sent a message on that social network to FI's cousin that got married in April of 2009 and asked who steamed her dress and if she would recommend them. APPARENTLY, FI's aunt has a home alterations business! So I'm going to give her a call and see if she has a steamer (which, obviously, she should) and if she can steam my dress for me!

Also, I ordered my flowers from Bridesign.com. We'll have all mini calla lilies. White for the bridesmaids, groomsmen, moms, dads, and grandparents, and then purple for FI and myself. I have 2 centerpieces, each with 20 blooms and 4 stems of lily grass to work with extra. I need to make 3 additional boutonnieres (ushers and reader) and an additional corsage (reader) that don't come with our package out of 4 of the blooms, and that leaves us 36 to use at the altar and possibly in additional centerpiece components for the reception (we should have 10-15 tables, I think). My sister (MOH) is driving to the wedding from Ohio and so she offered to transport any centerpiece materials necessary. AND to ditch to the reception site after we're done with group pictures to set them up. LOVE HER.

The ties were procured today from Tyson's! But thank you! I'm really excited about them. Now if only a single groomsman owned a freaking grey suit...

David's is stupid. I mean, come on. But -- even better that there is a good source of steaming in the family! Give it that extra TLC before the big day.

Great that you got the flowers ordered! All those callas will be so elegant and gorgeous! I can't wait to see the pictures! I think we're going to end up with some purple callas in my bouquet, too, but the floral show-and-tell isn't for another few weeks so I'm not certain!

So I don't have a photographer or a florist or a dress......but I think I've chosen my BM gift!
I only have 1 BM so I want to get her something nice so I though I'd order her a little diamond "K" (her first innitial) pendant in 18ct wg and a really fine little 18ct yellow gold box chain to go with it. I can probably get it whole sale + tax from work which would work out at about $150 NZ. Good idea?

SB, I can't wait to hear how the floral show-and-tell goes!

When are you arriving here? We leave for KC on the Friday and get back on the Monday. Any chance you're here and free either Thursday or Tuesday??? ::Fingers Crossed::

FutureGirl, that pendant idea sounds lovely. Any reason in particular you're mixing golds? Does she like the mixed metal look?

vc, I'm flying standby, so my flights are always a bit shaky, but the goal is to arrive at DCA around 4:45. FI is getting in a bit later at 7:30 and then we have dinner plans. Any chance you could meet up in the hours in-between?!?

And 4ever, honestly, for me, that wouldn't be my cup of tea. It's the kind of lovely gift that would sit in my jewelry box...just not the type of necklace I would wear. Which is not to say it isn't perfect for your friend (I have no idea what she loves!), and I can think of a friend of mine who would love a K necklace (that's her initial, too) but I don't think it is a universal good idea. But you know your friend and know if that would be something she would love or not.

I'd be mixing golds because the letters have such lettle metal showing (they're pretty much all diamonds) that they just look better in white gold but she suits yellow gold and does wear both so I think she'd prefer the YG chain. I think she would like it and wear it but I might keep my eye out for something the same kind a price that's a little more classic.

Ahhh, okay, that makes sense! 8)

Today's update: My wedding band has been ordered! On top of making my pendant and my bridesmaid gifts, DanielM will also be custom-making my platinum concave band to go with my engagement ring. I am super excited! We are still undecided about FI's ring.

SB: Work is right on the Blue/Yellow line for me, so if you get in a 4:45, I can make my way up there for a coffee (or tea in your case, IIRC) in the terminal while you wait for FI! Are you on that social network?

Yeah wedding band!!! How are you planning on picking FI's band? I have no clue how to go about that...I guess we just go somewhere and start trying stuff on? I'm ordering the band that matches my e-ring, although I'm not sure if I want to do the 1/2 or full pave. I have to decide by the beginning of April when I'm in Chicago next!

You do recall correctly! Nice job! My profile picture is of a small child in a green bucket. :))

For FI's wedding band we just went to Maul stores and tried stuff on. I think he's leaning toward just a plain 6mm comfort fit platinum band (so I will probably be ordering it from eweddingbands.com) but he also liked one of the tungsten rings with more detail.

I had originally wanted to set a surprised diamond with fluorescence into the inside of his band (since my e-ring diamond has blue fluor), but the costs skyrocketed, so I think we'll just keep it to plain. My guess is we'll end up with the platinum because the tungsten can't be engraved.

75 days - HOLY $H!T!!!!!!!

I'm both incredibly excited and completely terrified.

I can't believe that we're so close to getting all our friends and family together to watch the FI and I say our vows and commit ourselves to each other forever and become husband and wife...and then have a rocking party!

At the same time, a bit of panic is starting to get in. Both about the wedding (but there is so much still to do!) and the whole "getting married" thing (but marriage is for old people! and one guy? forever? really?).

My brain is an interesting place.

Our jeweler said that Tungsten can be laser engraved. It's a very light engraving but it's possible! It's using the same technique they used to get the "triton" logo inside their rings.

That's exciting! :) Congrats! I haven't had any of the getting married panic yet. That will be interesting.

You'll be fine :D and enjoy that rockin' party :D

Thanks, mrswahs! I should've been more specific: the jeweler that carried the tungsten ring he liked can't engrave it. And I haven't been able to find it on the internet.

OMG SB!!! 75 DAYS!!!!!!!!!

I can not wait to see everything for your wedding come together! :appl: I've L  VED everything so far! (Though I still think I'm the most partial to your Save the Date stamps...friggen ADORED those shoes!)

In the meantime, I think I've got a rough sketch of our ceremony complete. It's a bit longer than I had wanted, so I might try to pare it down a bit over the next few months. But I wanted to have something to go over with our officiant when we're in KC next weekend!

Also...jewelry suggestions for boudoir pics? I'm doing my wedding earrings and veil (courtesy of Claritek's awesome skills!) with an ivory chemise...but I don't want to wear them with other outfits. Was just thinking of getting some large, but not OTT CZ studs and taking my pearl necklace and studs with me for the other outfits. Sound good?

Thanks ladies!! :)) mrswahs - welcome to the coffee klatch! Always nice to have another poster join in in the inanity!

vc - does your boudoir photographer have jewelry available? I know mine has a whole array of jewelry and other fun stuff at our disposal for the shoot. But regardless, the cz studs (but why the hell not have them OTT?!? boudoir baby!) and pearl set would be lovely! One question - how long are your pearls? If they're short, I might consider picking up a pair of long cheapies to have with you - or another long cheapie necklace. I think they make for really fun pictures. Are you going to be rocking some college paraphernalia?

As for me, I had a productive day. I had a great conversation with my wedding photographer and we mapped out the pre-wedding photography and made fun of my FI a lot. I also learned my wedding planner is in recovery from surgery! She thought she had told me and I hadn't emailed her while she was out so I never saw her out-of-office reply. I wish I could have at least sent her my best wishes or something!!! But apparently she's back to work, though, so we have a phone call scheduled tomorrow so I can address some of my freaking out and make sure we're both on track for everything that needs to get done.

What else...I bought my veil off etsy! It's the one I posted forever and a day ago. If you had told me a year ago that I would be wearing a really long veil, I would have laughed in your face! And I bought the cutest dress for the engagement party.
_5989463.jpg
And, um, maybe another dress for Vegas. This one hasn't come in the mail yet, though, so it might be hideous on.

I seem to be on a buying binge...and an oversharing binge...

Haha...what can I say, SB...when you're right, you're right! Maybe OTT IS the way to go with the CZs. I'll get on that this weekend. I have a short strand of pearls, but I'll look for a long strand that doesn't look too cheapie. There's a Boudoir studio in the NoVa area and there's a pic of just the woman's torso with the pearls draped over her back with white lace hipsters...LOVED that shot. Thanks for reminding me! I don't think my photog has a stock of jewels just yet...she's only just recently started working in boudoir. And OF COURSE I'll be rocking some college duds! FI never really had much school spirit...so I'll be rocking togs from my OWN alma mater. Since those shots are primarily for me, I decided I wanted more sass than sex and I bought a pair of VS Pink hipster undies with my alma mater printed across the butt, accented by gold studs, and I'm borrowing a very good friend's hockey jersey to top it off.

Yay for photog convos and making fun of FI...I'm guessing my photog and I will be doing the same! And speedy recovery to your wedding planner! Yay veils and cute dresses! And I'm sure you will ROCK both of those dresses! (That first one is particularly adorable, though...where'd you get it???)

No real news from yesterday...but I think next on our list is booking our KC flights for the wedding! And I need to order cardstock and vellum for our programs, invites, framed table menus (so everyone knows what's on the buffet before they head up), table numbers, and escort cards. All of which I'm making myself. GAH!

SB - I love both dresses. Super cute!

I want to go on a buying binge, too, but mine will be our airfare for our trip to Spain in November. That's next to cross off the list for me.

HOLY CRAP 100 DAYS!!!

My update for the day: Claritek finished my veil! (That's her modeling it in the picture...it will be smoother when it's not clinging to her t-shirt, lol.) It's plain and perfect! 33" of ivory tulle, raw-edged, with a lot of volume! It will hit just where the pleats begin to flare at the back of my dress. SO EXCITED!!!

Now to find my reception fascinator...

You're just jealous because I have more time left to get stuff done than you do. ;))

Did you have your flower show-and-tell yet???

I got my invitiation to my Bachelorette Party today! My friends are actually calling it my Bachelorette Soiree. The invites are purple with black swirls and give absolutely nothing away about what we're doing. The girls are keeping it a surprise and it's simultaneously killing me and making me even MORE excited.

SB, when's VEGAS!??

Flower show-and-tell and timeline meeting are on April 4th. My planner and I are going to get dinner (and a bottle of wine) and hunker down to figure all of this stuff out! In that Chicago trip I'm also doing my hair trial, doing a walkthrough with the caterer for the BBQ, and getting the envelopes lined, stuffed, and sent out.

Then boudoir April 26, Vegas April 28-May 1, then back to Chicago from May 3-10, then back to Dallas, then driving up to Chicago May 22 (or so) with a carful of stuff, and maybe then, just then, I'll get married.

Honestly, I'm exhausted just thinking about it. Maybe I AM jealous you have more time...

Today my veil came in the mail...and I missed it. I want to prance around in it! Oh well, I'll go pick it up tomorrow.

anyway

vc, I'm sure your soiree will be a fantastic time! When is it? Enjoy the anticipation! I love surprises. I don't know about you, but I've found that in the wedding planning process I have to make SO MANY FREAKING decisions that any decision that can be made by others I'm totally happy to let them make! So when my MOH or other bridesmaids ask me what I want to do...no opinion! I'll love whatever! Same with the minimoon. It's like my brain can't handle another decision without snapping.

FMS - how is grandpa doing? (I'm putting this in bold to make sure you see it)

I've been verry consumed in buying up lots of old preserving jars for weding decorations rather than orginsing stuff that is actually important.

But I have started thinking seriously about invitations as well because I should do save the dates soon and I want all the stationary to go together.

Oh.Em.Gee, SB. I can't even imagine! I thought our planning from long distance was slightly insane. Now I'm thankful! Hopefully one of these days, you look back on all this and laugh. But for now, I'd be so totally burnt out if I was you, I'd probably call off the wedding and elope! (But don't even THINK about it...I'm looking forward to all your pictures too much!!! ;)) )

I'm SO sad you missed your veil!!! But hooray for prancing. That's precisely what I intend to do when mine arrives, whether FI likes it or not.

The soiree is April 16. It's my two best coworkers doing the planning (one of them got married last year, out of town, with no bridesmaids in the area...sound familiar?...so I threw her a lingerie shower/bachelorette party here) and I think including myself there will be 6 or 7 of us girls. I am SO excited! And I'm with you on the not wanting to make any more decisions! I still have so many more to MAKE. But if I don't HAVE to do it...I no longer care. One of the many reasons we probably over-paid (just a little) for our honeymoon to be all-inclusive. No way in Hades I was going to spend extra time deciding where to eat every night!

FMS, I'd also love to hear an update on Grandpa! Been sending positive vibes your way whenever I see your name pop up on PS!

Future Girl...I love the menus and invitations! Raffia and twine are amazingly useful with a rustic chic theme. For the menus, how about the palest purple paper you can snag, with black type, and the invitations definitely need a more formal font if you want to convey the "chic" part of your theme...the way they are reads a bit on the casual side to me. And I love the idea of a purple button in the bow. But I might skip on the lavender. No way to know how that will fare in the post and it may just crush (if you use dried) or smush and stain (if you use fresh) all over your precious stationary!

4ever, I think that's a really good base to start from for your paper stuff! Do you have a complimentary color to purple you're working with? A more formal font would up the chic factor. But I love the twine!

vc, DanielM did a fantastic job on your stuff! Bezeling isn't usually my jam, but I really do love his work - it's so clean and modern without being stark. That ammy pendant will look WONDERFUL with your wedding attire. And I'm really happy to hear you have local friends who are stepping up to show you a good time! Oh, and I'm a huge fan of the all-inclusive. One of my very favorite places to travel is a Cancun AI that is just like heaven.

rosetta, I love your shoes! Those broaches are awesome! I still have got to get me something blue...I think it'll be my garter, but I'm still not sure...

My calligraphy is just about done! I'm a little sad we didn't end up doing purple envelopes, but we just couldn't find the right ones. The natural linen envelopes still look great though! To make up for the lack of color it we decided to do envelope liners (purple with yellow flowers that match the invitations) and got those ordered. I cannot wait to post the whole invitation suite!!!

Otherwise, I just keep buying things. I'm seriously going to buy myself out of house and home the way I keep running my pretty little credit card through the machine. BAD sillyberry!
