Hello Everybody,

I hope that you are doing well.

We have in my family a unique 18k gold ring, set with an exceptional natural color-changing Zultanite stone of 54.73 carats, surrounded by 22 diamond.

The Zultanite has been expertized and its authenticity proven. I know that a natural Zultanite from this size is pretty rare.

I tried to get an evaluation of this piece everywhere, but couldn't fine somebody who was able to evaluate this piece.

After and evaluation, we would like to sell this unique piece, do you know where there are collectors who might be interested in Zultanite in particular ?

Thanks for your help.

Have you thought about selling on eBay where it would be authenticated by a 3rd party?. Your lab reports are coming up blank for me.

The authentification is not needed as one of them provide from Gubelin which is a trustful institute, however they don't make any valuation.

I didn't want to put it for example on Ebay, as I don't have a proper evaluation for the piece.

I don’t understand how you’re ready to sell to a collector but don’t have enough information or idea of value to sell on eBay.

I think if you search through the appraisers on this website you can find a GIA appraiser who could appraise your ring.

Good luck!

You could try having the stone and ring evaluated together as a piece for its replacement value for insurance purposes as a guide, by a local jeweller acredited to perform such evaluation.

Bewarned though that such an evaluation is often much more than the saleable value for a piece of second-hand jewellery, as I have found out myself based on my own experiences.

DK :))

Being a unique and modern gemstone there isn’t much “price data” available. So an appraiser isn’t going to have that to assist them to calculate value. Also being a large size is unusual. Not sure if being larger size adds a lot to the value (ie does the per carat value increase).
I think Zultanite is a pretty niche market, it’s a fascinating gemstone but it’s basically unknown to the general public.
You might need a specialist gem auction to realise full potential but the selling fees are high.

Having an Internet browse, over 50 carats is indeed rare, also very expensive apparently. The asking price for a 40 odd carat Zultanite is like $400,000. Of course what the seller wants and if someone will buy at that price ?????
So yes, I think you’re going to need a specialised market to realise proper value. Unfortunately, and as with many natural gemstones, there is a laboratory version which costs under $100 for huge ones on eBay.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Indeed, this is a very niche market and I don't find any company ready to evaluate it.

Do you know somewhere I can get a specialist in that kind of stone who whould know the value of it ?

Indeed also, there are not a lot of buyer of such new stone, and this is why I am struggling to find a place where after an evaluation, I can try to sell it, maybe indeed for colletors.

The only point I know is that a stone from this size is very very rare. According to studies, like 95% of those stones are below 2-3 carats, and online like 10 discover until now above 20 carats (the biggest one found today on internat are 30 carats and 80 carats).

Hello,

I wanted to know if you knew where a specialist could help me to evaluate that kind of stone and from your point of view what would be the best options to sell it then to collectors for examples ?

The first step would probably be to send the gem, unmounted, to a well regarded reputable lab like AGL and then to an appraiser for valuation. Valuation will be subjective as there won’t have been many past sales data for comparison. You can’t really use an appraisal as a guide for value, with unique gems it depends on who wants such a large and unique gem and how much they want to pay. For that reason you might need to send it to a large Auction house like Bonhams, Christie’s or Sothebys who have specialist gem auctions for such unique and valuable gems. Selling fees are high but this is the place to find buyers with lots of money.
