Ok folks, my boyfriend has been shopping for an engagement ring, this is what we are looking for 1.5-2.0c, SI1-SI2, no less than I color (princess cut) our budget is not exceeding $12000.00, now I came accross this one on Blueniles, price is within our range. Only thing is that I am not excited about shopping online, do you folks think they people at diamond district will work to match this price...do you think its even worth trying. If, so is that a fair enough price range for a this diamond or could get a better deal at diamond district you think?

Thanks Much!

I would check out EngagementRingsDirect and speak to Mark or Gary. I almost bought a stone off bluenile some months ago and decided to hold out for an expert to shop for me. Wouldn't you know it he recommended the same stone that I almost bought off bluenile. The great thing about it was that I paid $600 less by going with ERD verus blueniles price.

Basically I got rid of a middle man. Bluenile has people that buy stones from them. I went directly to said people and got rid of a layer of middleman. ERD deals directly with various cutters so the have an in road to the source.

As to your question about shopping at the diamond district and having them match BN price....

I think there is so much to know about buying a diamond that you''d better bring along a personal appraiser for an on the spot eval.

I have never frequented the actual district but I can only imagine how overwhelming and persuasive the entire environment can be.

It would be fun to visit but scary to buy. Make sure they have an iron-clad return policy.

Just my .02

I would suggest, where ever you look, to stick with AGS0 graded Princess. They''re graded for light performance (want zero), and that will help ensure you get a decent stone.

Omblite, it''s really hard to say if this is a fair price on the stone because your information doesn''t give any information about basic measurements and doesn''t even list which lab graded the stone (if at all).

Fancy stones show color and inclusions much more readily than well-cut rounds to, so it would be a good idea to stick to stones from the more stringent grading labs like AGS/GIA.

Even then, the make of the stone (how well it''s cut) will affect the price, and only AGS grades princess cuts presently. That''s why Ellen''s suggesting a targeted search among AGS stones.

In any case, make sure you work with a vendor who has a good return policy so you''ll have plenty of time to have your independent appraiser check out your purchase. Good luck!

Hi Omblite,
Congrats on ur pending engagement!

I don''t have much to add to what the experts have told you, except to ask how come you mention your "not excited" about shopping online?
I am not that well versed with the diamond district prices at all, but from most accounts it is quite difficult to get any B&M store to *pricematch* with online, as they have their overheads to cover. Not to mention, you will often encounter a negative opinion from many SA if you menion you have been looking online, which I find tiresome (just my own experience).

I may echo a previous comment about looking at other vendors recommended here, such as GOG and Whiteflash - they have excellent reps who will *be ur eyes* for you - just tell them what you''re after and they can find something great in ur pricerange. I may have to be corrected, but I believe BN is a *drop ship* site? (pls don''t throw things at me if I''m wrong

One other thing, I hope u don''t mind me asking, but what was it that made you choose the princess as ur shape? The reason I ask is there a number of fab proprietry square cuts out there now that perform really amazingly - I knew I wanted a square shape but wasn''t fond of the princess, so I landed with these cuts.
I think they''re special as they are not as common as other shapes and majority of them are cut to very high standards, so its hard to go wrong with the cut.
I just thought I''d mention it as an alternative. But if you adore the princess, by all means just ignore me!
