Well, you know what?!! I am not rushing out to buy any more diamonds any time soon!!

http://sg.biz.yahoo.com/090114/1/4lal6.html

Doesn''t help that everything you own (shares, houses, cars etc) seem to have taken a nose-dive.

I am not sure that I''ve seen a worse recession in my lifetime

. There seems to be no end to this.

When are things going to get better (?!)

Do you think, DF?

I am reeaaaaaallly glad that we didn''t go for one of the 5caraters which we considered *briefly*. I, for one, think that the economy would continue its downwards trend for at least the next 6-9 months before it even *begins* to get better and with that, diamond prices will be dragged down too. This is especially true considering that diamond prices (along with the housing market) went through a huge bubble last couple of years (before the downturn).

So what happens if you bought a diamond from a company with an upgrade policy? Say you bought a stone for 20k and want to trade it in. Prices come down and a larger stone (same color, clarity and quality) now sells for 18k. How will the company handle the discrepancy in pricing? You would just have to buy an even bigger stone so that the price will exceed your original 20K? Will make for some interesting scenarios!

Oh God, I hope not!! Based on what do you say this though, DF? At the moment, no one really knows. IMO, a few more bad things are gonna come out of the wood work and a lot more bailing out and restructuring need to happen before things can start to turn around. But I say this purely as an observer, it''s certainly not any expert opinion of any sort. I don''t think anyone really knows for sure, but that''s just my humble opinion.

I agree with DF.

One way to think about it is this: You''ve kind of "locked in" the higher price and you''d only need to spend a little more to get a better quality or larger stone. Or at least, that''s how I''d prefer to justify my spendings of the last couple of years
