What are you savvy gals wearing to casual-ish holiday gatherings this year? I''m not feeling so inspired & will probably have to raid my own existing closet. I did buy a bronze sequin scarf I thought would jujze up something - but what?

So far I''m thinking:

Black silk cropped cardigan with 3/4 sleeves
Black cami underneath
Dark flared jeans
Black suede heeled boots - OR- Patent ruffle t-strap heels w/Black Tights
AND
The bronze sequin scarf artfully tied in some kinda way

What have you guys gotten or re-worked to be F-E-S-T-I-V-E???

I may attempt to do a sweater dress this year with tall boots. I have to get past my aversion to wearing boots in Florida first.

If not it''ll be my usual red sweater with black pants and I may break out some sexy red heels

I bought a new pair of jeans the other day. . .Surprisingly, Macy''s had all their designer jeans in their Impulse dept. 10% off and then by using my Macy''s card, I got 20% more off, so I was able to get a pair of Sevens (Dojo dark trouser jeans - petite) for $111 plus tax. Yah.

I may wear those. Still deciding because they stand out a bit and dh and I are trying to remain toned down in front of family since we bought a few other expensive items.

If I don''t wear those, I''m wearing a pair of black slacks with the same sweater I''d wear with the Sevens. It''s a gray wool cardigan from Old Navy that has fake diamond buttons going down the front (with a black cami underneath it). Then I''m wearing black heeled shoes or some new wine colored ones I picked up last week.

Then also, my diamond solitaire pendant and some simple silver dangle earrings.

Hey Deco,

Just going through something similar myself. I've decided on a bunch of DVF dresses with black tights/boots at the ready, black cigarette pants or skinny jeans with cropped/fitted/3/4 sleeve jacket with sequence or bead-trimmed cotton tops for more casual digs (the Bloomies-promoted look), and of course a basic black dress (Dolce & Gabbana, my recent splurge) worn several ways (loaded up with faux pearls and cream/white spectator pumps, or with this little red silk flouncy shrug).

I've always been a high/low sort of dresser, so the main way I've been re-vamping for the festive season is by also swinging by stores and departments with a teenaged customer in mind to pick up trendy, of-the-moment accessories for next to naught. I've picked up some silvery long knit scarves, bubble-shirred knit scarves in gemstone colors, sequin-trimmed cotton shirts, lace/tulle-wrapped long faux pearls, various hair-baubles, and pewter multi-chains in the last couple of weeks.

Love the idea of your bronze scarf; are you thinking of finding some sort of bronzey/topazey hairpin to go with it, or something more traditional like earrings?

I'm sure that-colored scarf will look great with your white beard and dangling cigarette.

LOL! Indeed it will.

I like all of your ideas & it sounds like we have similar strategies (few cheapie trendy seasonal pieces). Somehow I just missed the boat this year & didn''t shop for those early enough. I was stocking up on some basics & forgot the "jazz" (except for the lone sequin scarf I actually bought as a potential gift but thought it was too rough around the edges to give away - so *I''ll* wear it!).

Re: other bronze accessories -- nah. I''m a white metal gal all year round. Bronze kinda goes with my hair color though & I do have a bronze leather bag (gift). Where I''m thinking of making a statement is the makeup: maybe some cat-eye black eyeliner - pale cream shadow & RED lips. It kinda doesn''t go with my outfit though. Not Retro enough for the makeup look maybe. Harumph.

Hee! I''m kicking myself for not getting that sweater myself. It was surprisingly soft & very like the JCrew version. And the gray was more muted & sophisticated than some of their Candy colors. Either with the jeans or the black pants --- sounds festive to me!

Red sweater dress from Express, worn with a skinny black patent belt or without, with black tights/heels or with brown tights/ tall brown stiletto pointy-toe boots. (New)

Black sweater dress with gray tights/black heels, sparkly black & silver scarf. (Old/re-worked)

Black cardigan, gray shell underneath, black skirt with lace trim, gray tights - the only thing new was the gray tights. Paired it with flats because of snow.

Then I went glam with the accessories - cute rhinestone applique headband from target, bling bracelet, and layered bright silver/shiny necklaces. It was SUCH a fun outfit - the clothes themselves were over the top conservative and the accessories were over the top compared with what I usually wear, so I felt pretty comfortable but festive.

It is a great sweater. Only issue is I''ve worn it twice and it''s beginning to pill!
