I've been lurking for awhile, finally need to ask PS your opinion...

I'm shopping with following criteria:
1.5ct min
H+ color
Eye Clean clarity (subjective I know), but ideally SI1+
Ideal-Excellent cut
It'd be nice if it would be set and all in for <$20K, with a simple plat Tiffany-style 6 prong

That said, much of the WF ACA's a bit pricey, as are the JA True Hearts

I saw on Costco.com though, this rock
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...ang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10573-Cat28447&topnav=
and as it's a larger rock, it has a GIA
http://www.costco.com/Images/Content/Misc/PDF/609021gia.pdf
HCA appears to return a 0.9!
I've requested IdealScope / ASET but not sure they'll be able to provide...

Thoughts?
Other options I should consider? TIA!

Re: [WWPS] Another Costco rock

They won't be able to provide you with an ASET or anything like that.

BUT there's good news. FIRST, you can get the certificate from them and see it and run it through the HCA. (ETA: nevermind just saw you did that)

AND Costco has a return policy that is bullet proof. So you can order your own idealscope and see what you think. Or send it to an appraiser and pay 180 bucks for their eval and their tools and skills. Look at it this way... it's the equivalent of DIY ... you can pay more at a PS vendor who does all that for you. Or you can do it yourself and pay less.

Personally for that much savings... I'd give DIY a shot.

thanks for the thoughts, will need to mull it over some more. I just found it surprising that Costco offered something cheaper than what I've found through PS

Anybody else have any thoughts on alternative rocks in my price range / search specs?

I am going through a similar process on princess cuts currently, so decided to take a break and search a bit on PS for you.

When looking at PriceScope in stock (1.4 - 1.6ct, <$20,000 and sort by Ideal Cut column), these two stood out as most similar to Costco
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2638945.htm (1.1 HCA)
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1413612.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131 (1.3 HCA)

based on what I have read on here, the Expert Selection from WF seems to be highly regarded with some not noticing a difference side by side vs. their ACA selections. That might be a good compromise vs. a sight unseen Costco stone since the light performance and H&A behavior is guaranteed, while also being Eye Clean.

The Costco setting looks similar to the base $695 platinum 4 prong on WF for total cost. I would expect the sales tax with Costco vs. WF/JA (depending on your state) might be worth factoring in too for total cost.

not quite as close to your criteria
For upper edge of price range
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2676052.htm (1.4 HCA) 1.73 Ct for ~$19k
with medium fl.

or drop to I color

or big drop to O color
http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity&id=756 (0.7 HCA) 3.3ct $17.3K

Here is the info for the Costco ring I found near me. The GIA cert describes it as a 1.65 RB H, VVS2, excellent cut, very good polish, and excellent symmetry. The measurements are as follows:
Depth% 60.6, Table% 56, Crown angle 34 and a pavilion angle of 40.6. The HCA tool gives it a .6! Dims are 7.67 x 7.69 mm It is in a platinum pave setting bringing the total carat weight to 1.79. Priced at $15999. Obviously nothing about hearts and arrows but if you run the specs in the diamond search everything is over the that price, not including the platinum pave setting. Costco also has a LIFETIME return policy.
