Hello, newbie here with at question. I found a diamond online with measurements of approximately 8mm x 8mm x 4mm (round cut). However, the corresponding carat weight listed was well under 1. I know this can''t be right...either the measurements listed are incorrect or they screwed up the carat number. Looking at a sizing chart shouldn''t those dimensions be closer to 2 carat? What''s interesting is that the price is consistent with the smaller carat, not what it SHOULD be if the measurements were correct. I inquired about the cert and they said it was new inventory and had not been posted yet for viewing. Question is, which do you think they screwed up (if they did), the dimensions or the carat (and price)? If price, maybe I could get quite a deal...

Thanks,

KT

It could be that.....or it could be a really terrible cut. I would call and ask them to hold the stone for you pending further information.

Don''t look for "quite a deal" if they incorrectly entered some data. Usually there will be a disclaimer to that effect somewhere on the site, and I doubt any vendor would honor any clearly erroneous data input.

Also, if it is a virtual database, the selling vendor may not even be aware the situation.

If prices of diamonds, which appear on the surface (not literally, of course) to be similar, are quite different - There is always a good reason!!

Remember, with diamonds you always get what you pay for - and sometimes less!!

And sometimes it''s a computer glitch. It''s happened on PS before. Listings from one PS Vendor were being offered at ridiculously low prices that weren''t any where near accurate. It took several days to find the problem and bring the Vendor''s listings back online. Don''t remember exactly what the problem was, but it can happen.

Thanks for the responses everyone. It looks to me like everything is consistent except for the measurements, take a look at the specs:

Cut: Ideal
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 62.4%
Table: 55%
Symmetry: EX
Polish: EX
Girdle: med. to thick, faceted
Culet: none
Flourescence: none

But then...
Measurements: 8.00x8.04x4.96 mm
Carat weight: 0.71
Price: $3,048

And yes, I found the disclaimer

:

"Infrequently, data may be inaccurately displayed on our site due to system errors. While we make every attempt to avoid these errors, they may occur. We reserve the right to correct any and all errors when they do occur and we do not honor inaccurate or erroneous prices."

This stone is not listed on Pricescope, is it?

I once found a diamond in the virtual database of one of the PS vendors that was under 1ct but was 55.5mm x 55.1mm x 33.8mm

When I pointed it out to them we both got a good laugh out of it.

Mistakes happen.
