The falls aren't really frozen this year. I have seen it mostly frozen years ago. It's about an hour from where I live. It's always really cold there. Kind of a relief in the summer time.
When I was in my 20's I saw Niagra Falls frozen like that in person. It is the only time I ever have seen Niagra falls since I missed my family's summer trip there! I do not recall why we went, but I went with a male friend whose family of origin lived in Kenmore, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. I was in college or graduate school. He was working in New York City. I remember it was very, very cold there and that we stayed at his brother's house where they kept the curtains closed to keep the heat in. (This wasn't a cold snap; this was just normal winter.) Since I was a visitor, they took me to see the falls, which were frozen and really beautiful! I do not recall seeing the water flow at all, although maybe it was flowing underneath the ice. It appeared to be frozen solid when I looked at its surface then.
