DH is like, that's weird that someone else owned it. What do u think ?

Yes, I would buy an estate ering. It doesn't bother me to wear pre-owned pieces. My current wedding set is an estate piece.

My engagement ring is an antique. No problem for me. I prefer antique jewels.

Heck yeah I would. If I liked it and it was the right price, why not? Jewelry is meant to be loved and worn, and it's got history, which is neat.

Yes I would

I would too. Especially because I love the older cuts.
However engagement ring is a very personal thing, and you have to be 100% comfortable wearing it to enjoy it. Mind clean comes before diamond clarity! :wavey:

I would if I was looking for an older cut. If looking for a H&A RB then no, I would get it new.

Richard Burton gave Elizabeth Taylor the Krupp diamond. Do you think she cared whether it was new? LOL!

I really had to give some thought to your question and I need to state up front that I'm not supersticious ........ however, I do believe that jewellery can have good and bad karma. For example, I fought to buy a stone once that was just out of my reach - it was a nightmare transaction from start to finish but when I got it I was relieved. I then had a year long problem getting it set (a complete and utter nightmare again) and then eventually when I got it back, each time I wore it something bad happened! It was really odd and I just looked at it as an unlucky ring for me. So I sold it on Ebay! I've never had that issue before and as I said, I'm not superstiticious but it really felt like that ring shouldn't be mine.

So, if the ring is meant to be yours and bring you happiness, the transaction will go well and everything will be smooth and happy surrounding it.

Hope that makes some kind of stupid sense?!

Yes, I would do it.

Heck yeah! Some of the older jewelry is so much better quality than what's made now. The metal is heavy, thick and gorgeous. It's also unique.

Definitly...it I liked it I would buy it!

Yes, if I liked it I totally would!

Without doubt.

Most definately! Especially if it was something that I really loved. I love the idea of the potential history behind it. I was bidding on an antique ring on ebay a few months ago, and it had a date inscribed inside the ring. DH thought it was weird of me, but i said just imagine someone proposing with that ring 60+ years ago.. the stories it could tell.

Sure!

absolutely! I think there is something a bit romantic about buying a stone/ring that was worn and loved by another That symbolized someone else's lifelong committment to each other.... with that said- I guess I am more likley to buy an older cut stone, like an old mine cut diamond or OEC that was sold off at an estate sale or something as opposed to buying a RB or something from someone on ebay from a short-broken up marriage .lol.

If i were using the stone for something other than an Ering I have no issue buying anothing used- even if it had bad karma.

I have no problem with it.

I'd have to know the history of it. If it was being sold because of money problems, or personal problems, or death.
As LovingDiamonds mentioned good/bad karma, that's how I am about energies.

For instance, my family has a diamond that they're giving me. However, this diamond was given to my great grand mother who lost it under her linoleum floor for 10 years. Then it was found and given to my mother. She recently was looking for it and it was lost again. Now I found it- this diamond has a tendency of getting lost, for an engagement ring, I'm loath to use it because losing it would be heartbreaking.

So no, unlike the majority, I would not buy an estate engagement ring -- I'm not necessarily going to even use a diamond I do know the history of...

Absolutely, with no problem

Well I found an old diamond I love but not sure if i should get. It's not certified!

will the seller allow you to take the diamond to an appraiser- with them there- and have it appraised, that way you have an idea as to whether or not the price is right? I wouldn't want to buy it "blindly" but if you love it taking it to get appraised would be a smart move before buying.

HI:

I would not hesitiate for a moment. Some of the most desirable/beautiful pieces I've seen, have been previously loved.

cheers--Sharon

Yes I'd jump on it if I was in love with the ring and it was a great deal!

The nicest stone I own was previously owned by a lady that used to post here. If she ever comes back I'll show her all the pics she can stand.

Of course she'll probably want to kill me when she finds out I have her ring in Iraq.

My ring is an estate ring. It doesn't bother me one bit. I also like to think that there was once a romantic history behind the piece. With all the upgrade policies vendors have now, I would assume (maybe incorrectly) that some of those traded in diamonds will end up in someone else's engagement ring, making the stone or possibly entire ring previously owned.

No, I wouldn't rule it out. Chances are you'd come up with a truly one-of-a-kind piece. But shop carefully.

Had I known then what I know now; what treasures can be found when searching for antique pieces! I could have had a much larger OEC, or possibly an early 20th century Asscher rather than a newer diamond, for what my DH spent on my ring.

tHANK you all so much!!! I might just buy it. WIll see some more stones this week and then i guess if it's meant to be, it will be there for me, right??

I would. I love the history of older pieces.
