Hi!
We''ve been looking for a princess cut diamond for a couple of months, and we came across one online that sounds pretty good. I would love to hear some opinions and insight! First, here are the diamond''s specs:

Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Cut: Ideal
Symmetry: Very good
Polish: Excellent
Depth: 71.6
Table: 67
Lab: GIA
Girdle: slightly thick to thick
Flourescence: None
Dimensions: 6.58 x 6.44 x 4.61

We like the size and price (around $8200), but I''m not sure whether it would look right it our setting. The setting has several tiny round diamonds that are E-F color. Will an I color diamond look noticeably yellow next to them? Would we be better off looking for an H color, SI1 clarity - I''ve read that princess cuts hide flaws better than round cuts.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!!

All I can tell you is that I have heard that princess cuts show a little more color than rounds. And a girl on another thread was upset that a friend commented that her I color princess looked yellow. So with that, I would say to stick with H.

It's really hard to find a well-cut princess, as i'm sure you know

that one seems like it may be nice...

Having said that, it depends on how color-sensitive you are & if it's a "high" I or a "low" one? It also depends on the size of the center stone (you will prolly notice the color more in a larger one) & where you live (lower colors tend to be less noticable the closer you are to the equator, or so i hear!).

I had a ~3 ct high J VS, 1A cut class, with G baguettes next to it. dont think it was the G sides but I did notice the "warm tint". everyone has different levels of color sensitivity tho (believe it or not, i honestly didnt think i was too sensitive)...

when i was looking to replace it, i looked at Hs first (too warm still), so i went with an F VS2 (didnt see any SI1/SI2s that were 'eye-clean' enough for me; seems like more of the rough is coming from Russia now, where the carbon inclusions tend to be black).

any way for you to look at some well-cut G-I princesses before you pull the trigger?

I will definitely check out some more princess cuts, and thanks so much! I have read a lot on this board, and really value the input all of you can give, whether it’s “expert” or experiences! I’ve tried to read a lot about princess cuts, but the information gets really confusing after a while. Instead of learning more, I feel like I’m more lost because I’m more aware of all of the factors present in a diamond! Thanks again!

To make it super easy, just stick with princess cut diamonds that have an AGS0 cert. That means they have an excellent cut and light return. Also, here is a nice tutorial on princess cut diamonds. Both Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash carry AGS0 princess cut stones.
