Hello everyone! To start off, I found pricescope not too long ago after purchasing an engagement ring from Kay Jeweler. I quickly returned that ring since I found out I could get much more bang for my buck if I put some time and research into what I wanted. My girlfriend isn't the type to buy anything online as she needs to see it in person before passing judgment on it. I convinced her to let me try to find something online and if she doesn't like it when it arrives we can return it and move forward from there (probably end up going to a Jeweler like Tiffany).

The specifications she gave me were ~ 1 carat, ideal cut, G color or better, and VS2 or better (eye clean) which is something she found to her likely when looking at Tiffany rings. I wasn't in any rush to buy a diamond as were planning on an August or September engagement. However, I found this http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3114507.htm in my search and didn't want to pass up on the opportunity given the specs and price. It is an AGS0, Whiteflash ACA, 0.97 carat (sweet spot for ~1 carat size) and was in my budget. I made the payment 2 weeks ago, but it won't arrive for another 2 weeks since I chose a setting as well. I know this diamond falls towards the low end of my girlfriend's specifications, but I would really appreciate your guys insight on how I did on this purchase to ease my mind for the next 2 weeks before she sees it in person. Thanks everyone for your time!

I think it's a great choice. The proportions are what many PS people would recommend, small table and the 76% lower girdle will give nice bold arrows. It's an ACA and an AGS 000, so no worries about performance. Eye-clean from the side or pavilion view remains to be seen b/c diamonds are graded face-up for clarity, but you'll probably be very pleased with it. :-) Congrats on your engagement.

eta: The H color will still be very white. I have H and I, and F and some others. The H looks white to me, face-up. Face-down might be a little "scary," haha. But side view should still be white. This is definitely not going to be a Kay's diamond, and even Tiffany is a little erratic on cut standards compared to Whiteflash ACA criteria.

Hi rxp and welcome!

I think you did superbly well, wait till you see this diamond in person, I would like to bet it will blow your socks off! I also think your GF will be absolutely delighted with it also and she will love her new ring, what setting did you choose? H colour in that calibre of cut is going to look extremely white so I don't think you need to worry there, I think you did brilliantly!

Thank you for the replies! I chose this setting: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/inara-solitaire-engagement-ring-by-vatche-1758.htm

Hoping this diamond will blow me away in person. Will definitely update when it arrives.

Perfect choice of setting, I love the way the prongs cradle the stone, many congratulations on creating an INCREDIBLE ring!

The completed ring will be a powerful sock remover alright, make sure you are wearing lightweight shoes when you open the box....

Somebody cared enough to cut this diamond properly. Very rare to get a well cut diamond of this size as it is much more profitable to cut a full carat of a lessor cut quality than to cut a 0.97 ct. REVEL in you new treasure!

Wink

You picked out a gorgeous diamond and a great ring. She is going to love it.
