What is your worst gemstone gift? I was thinking about this today out of the blue. I dated a guy before my husband and I met, and one Christmas he purchased a bracelet and gave it to me. It was the ugliest bracelet ever, and had god knows what colored stones in it. Maybe topaz? He didn't have a lot of money (wasn't broke either, but comfortable) so I accepted it for what it was and thankful. I was searching through eBay a few days later and found my bracelet. It was a 99c buy from china. We were together over a year before that, so I expected more then "this is the cheapest gift I could find".

We wernt together long after that, lol.

What is your worst gem/ jewelry gift?

From my SIL and MIL during Xmas. It is the thought that counts, but a huge chunky blue topaz is not something you give to a colored stone collector like me (you guys all know how I feel about treatment). LOL!

Can't even get into details of who and when. Suffice it to say that it was unexpected, unplanned and bought because his mom liked these types of rings. He even brought me to the store to size it. A clever woman would wear it from time to time but I am afraid for fear of getting another one of the same type.

ummmm well i'm almost afraid to post this as DH has a username on PS and i'm not sure if he ever comes on here to just look around or not. It's not that the pendant is ugly...it is just not my style at all. And like TL for the most part i don't like my gemstones to have treatmeants.

A marquise cut sapphire ring (my least favorite cut) from Costco that was so dark it looked black with 2 tiny diamond chips that still could not hide the fact they looked like frozen spit. This, from the same man who thought hiking boots were appropriate to mark our engagement, which is why I buy all the jewelry

MATATA :wavey: You can return that to Costco, even without the receipt. If you have the little paperwork appraisal thingy, they will take it back, no matter how many years later, and give you a full refund.

I thought this was funny! It reminded me of an old Carol Burnett Show skit, where Alan Alda played an artist nephew in Mama's and Eunice's family. He was a professional artist, selling his work for thousands of dollars, and they gave him a paint-by-number set.

Really!! I'll look for the appraisal that came with it. DH doesn't even remember buying it so his feelings won't be hurt.

I recently received a "turquoise" and "coral" bracelet conveniently strung on a nice stretchy elastic for one-size-fits-all. Sigh... I should probably regift it to my little niece.

It was kind of a pass-me-down gift from my mother. They are blue topaz earrings in yellow gold, originally given to my mother by my father the Christmas before they divorced (after 42 years of marriage). She gave them to me because just looking at them upset her, but she couldn't bear to throw them away and knew I loved gemstones. I don't like irradiated blue topaz, I've never worn them because just looking at them makes me angry, but I can't make myself get rid of them because it would be like throwing away part of my mother.

Aahh, the gift that keeps on giving.

My dear sister did not inherit my father's gift giving genes (the man gives the best gifts ever - not necessarily expensive, but very well chosen). I studied classical music for 10 years, regularly attend concerts and operas, my CD collection is extensive and my taste is rather sophisticated. She gave me a Classical Music for Dummies book :?

And, a few years later, an etiquette book

You must not have written her a thnk-you note for the Classical Music for Dummies book....

I can play! Two years in into the relationship we still gave gifts for Valantine. Now I have never ever liked fakeys ( well maybe when I was four and liked everything that sparkled) and had repetedly informed him that I do NOT do cubic zirconia or the like.

Well the time comes to exchange gifts, I oppen the little box and what do I see... an amathyst in a cluster of cubic zirconia. :nono:

Well he had thought about it, I loved the design and since he knew I did not like fakeys he chose an amathyst ring, not giving a thought to what the huge white stones were. Gotta love their thinking process.

My husband isn't allowed to buy me jewelry wo me being there for that reason. I gave him a test about a year ago to see what he would buy me(he knew it was a test)..... And he failed it lol.

I received a hideous set of plastic pearl earrings and necklace from my SIL....what made her think I would ever wear something like that????

A ring my hubby bought me for Christmas one year, it was from K-Mart, it was all baggets, if you wanna call them that the look like frozen, chipped spit, the ring it self was ok but the diamonds were horrific....I still cant fathom to this day why he bought such an ugly ring, but I put a smile on my face and accepted it, it spends all of it time in my jewerly box :wink2:

Dia Diva,
lol @ the set of plastic pearl earrings and necklace... But if it's any consolation -- you have the BEST halo I have seen on this website!!!!! Hahaa, I saw the halo photo that you included in the "To halo before and after" thread -- and Wow!!! Would you please give me details about your ring in that photo; as in which company made it, what is the style name, etc... I so appreciate it.
I am looking for a dainty prong-set halo for my 1.20 round diamond. I like the hairline between the halo and the center stone, and I like a really thin halo, and a slim shank. Thank you so much and sorry to bother you.

V/r, Blossom Bee

Some ametrine is natural. After all citrine and amethyst are both quartz and grow together.

Should have used the quote for my last post sorry. Maybe that would look nice in a bezel?
