Hi guys,

First of, want to send out the best & prayers to all those affected by the hurricane.

My question is whether anyone who is working with and NYC-based vendor are experiencing delays in getting their projects done because of all the chaos going on there? I heard 5th ave was not that affected as it was away from the river, but not being from there or even close to the chaos, not really sure what's going on with businesses in the diamond district.

Let me know if you've been able to be in touch with them. Thanks!

I sent a note to Chris at ERD to see if he was ok. He said he was able to drive in today but it still looked like a ghost town. He doesn't have electricity at home. I'm sure they are working with skelton crews based on where people live and how the commute. He hasn't started on my little project so I didn't ask for an update... Mine can wait...

We have a frend who works for Fox and they have been operating with about 40% of their staff and they put some employees in hotels after sending drivers to retrieve them.

Living in Florida I've been without power for 3-4 days...but nothing like what they are experiencing... Awful!

HI everyone!
For anyone waiting on pieces being built in a factory on or near 47th street in NYC:
Generally all the factories are between 46-48th streets- which all have power- and thankfully, no flooding or damage is apparent on any of the buildings on these streets.

The main issue now is that many of the people working on those factories have no ability to get to NYC
It's safe to assume, unfortunately, that dates promised for work will have to be extended- in general.
I can't speak for any other manufacturers- however I have spoken to a lot of others in the business today, and reports are consistent

Thank for your reply Mayk! I shot Mark an e-mail also wishing him well. He says everything is fine, except for the power-outages as you already mentioned. He says they are expected to be up in running by Friday. I can wait for mine for a week (although my engagement party is soon lol so I'd hope to get it then, but obviously their situation is AWFUL and is completely understandable if it doesn't make it by then). I hope you are holding up with no power! I'm up in Canada, some places have been impacted, thankfully we were not hit with anything, just some showers and a little bit of wind.

Hope everyone else is safe!

David..that is good to know! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in NYC and the areas impacted by the storm.

I texted with James Allen today. He is personally doing fine in Maryland but offices in NY, while they do have power have no staff. Manhattan is a mess. The subways are flooded and public transportation is extremely limited. To my knowledge the LIRR is also not operating. Here on Long Island 90% of us were without power although LIPA is whittling that number down and predict to have most if not all up within 5-10 days. Good Old Gold at this moment is without power but that can change hopefully by the end of this week or early next week. We'll be giving updates via our Facebook page and 2 of my employees have power and internet so we are tackling emails now.

Prayers are with all devastated by this catastrophe.

Warm regards,
Rhino

No, no I have power... In the past with Hurrice Jeannie we were without power for a few days but NOTHING like what our friends in NYC are facing....

I can say that Adam at OWD and Sarah from GOG were both on email today. Though they said their stores are closed and everything (calls, emails, appts etc) will all be pushed out due to the hurricane.

As Jon said, things really are a mess. We were able to open the office today, but less than 20% of the staff were able to get in. The subway system is supposed to open back up tomorrow (to one extent or another), so we're hopeful that will be a big help. There are also still major power outages South of 39th street, so that isn't making life any easier.

On a lighter note, my partner in NYC texted me this yesterday:

"No power or water since Sunday. Doing our best. On the 16th floor. With the new puppy."

It is good that everyone is safe though. Material item can be replaced. Lives are irreplaceable. I would expect at least a 2 week delay for all ongoing projects.

I just called a Tiffany's near me to ask about ordering a piece. It would have required some customization though, and it turns out all of their work, for all stores, is done in New Jersey. Apparently their New Jersey location was affected by the storm and won't be shipping or receiving anything until Monday at the earliest.

I was ordering a "mini dragonfly" necklace for my niece, by the way. I know Tiffany's is way overpriced and there are concerns about quality, etc.... but she's my only niece, and she'll only turn 16 once, and I know she'll love the necklace and hope that she'll get a thrill from receiving a gift from Tiffany's! I just ordered the necklace as is - we'll bring it in to get the additional jump rings added later.

Oh, to heck with business for the minute! I'm just so glad all of you vendors are SAFE AND SOUND! You guys have all become more than just "vendors", but REAL PEOPLE, with names, identities, souls and families. As the Hangout's threads show, I am not the only one who feels this way, and definitely was not the only one worrying about you guys! I'm just happy silly that it was not as devastating as it could have been, and that you guys are all safe. That's the most important thing to remember. :))

However, I know how customers can be from a retail perspective, and can only imagine tenfold how it can get when we're talking engagement/sensitive timing and emotional purchases.. I pray that all of you guys have understanding customers, and are able to smoothly catch up with everything that got delayed.

Lots of well wishes to you east-coasters, from the west.

PS, _Kat, I remember you posting you're from Canada near NY. Are you guys okay there? Hope all is well with you and yours, too.

So glad to see all of you posting the updates that you are well and that your facilities are ok sans power. I hope your employees are all ok and just without power, and have not suffered any loss.
