This is my very first post! This site has been so helpful in deciding what I want in an engagement ring. It has taken about a year to finally find a stone I was in love with. I knew I wanted something with good finger coverage and that was no problem considering I have a size 3.25 finger size (being a tiny person really has it's perks). I fell in love once before (with a diamond of course) a 3 ct K colored beauty that shone grey. My mom hated it but I loved the personality and grey is my favorite color. She reasoned that the size of the stone with a halo that I insisted on would be massive on my finger. So the search for the perfect stone continued. My boyfriend's dad found my stone! An M color OEC VS1 with big bold flashes that was the perfect size 2.06 as well as a price my boyfriend was happy with. Enough yapping, here she is!
sorry for the crappy iPhone pics
I was given the option to recut into a modern brilliant or an oec with better proportions (it's slightly oval) but I love it with its flaws and was hoping to emphasize its ovalness by setting it east-west and moving the prongs closer to the band. I may get it polished later since the girdle has seen better days.
I worked with a CAD designer on my ring, which was surprisingly painless, he only had to revise once! I am what you consider a princess if you like me and if you don't, some other word... never rude, just picky. I'll update with photos of CADs if anyone is interested. I got the wax, an ugly green thing but the details were so perfect. I worried that the 2 point stones in the halo and the shank would be too large but I think they will look just perfect!
My boyfriend's dad popped the stone in for me.
I picked up my casting and was told not to freak out. What?? I was scared walking in and was handed two rings the color of old pennies or copper pipes... gross but kind of cool in an industrial sort of way.
Despite the unfinished state and rough interior, I had to try it on! I feel like the luckiest girl in the world! My fab boyfriend and his dad have been such angels to me during this whole process and I'm totally bursting at the seams trying to keep this all a secret from my friends so I'm sharing with all of you instead. I love PS and I hope it will love me back! I will keep you updated with the progress of my ring and if anyone has questions about the process feel free to ask!
