It's stories like this that remind me just how thankful I am for what I have. For the job I have (no matter how little I think it pays). And that people as a whole are good at heart and can achieve so much more then they ever thought possible when put to the test. I wish all of them a safe rescue and good luck with their families and their futures.

eta: maybe my nyquil is kicking in more than I realized :cheeky: 33-2 is not 32 ::)

I've been watching the live feed for a couple of hours now. Felt a bit queasy as the first rescurer descended into that tiny hold. This is such an amazing rescue. The third miner is almost to the top right now.

I think 7 miners have been rescued so far. :appl:

I'm so happy that you started this thread, I was going to start one as soon as I saw the story this morning. It makes me want to cry that humanity could pull off something like this! :appl:

Warms my heart.

11 out so far. CNN has posted video of the tunnel. Yikes  Scared me watching it (though I'm scared of elevators :cheeky: )

I'm with you, SB! Claustrophobia -- hate elevators & any small space. You'd have to hit me on the head w/a hammer to get me into that weeny capsule. It is a splendid thing to watch -- SO overjoyed for those miners & families!

Also proud of the U.S. for its help -- a PA company invented the drill to make the shaft (saw those guys interviewed an hour ago); NASA designed the capsule for the Chilean Navy to build; and NASA scientists & docs have been front & center throughout. Nice to see them lending their expertise now that Obama has reduced them to what you'd find in a banana dictatorship.

Awe is too mild a word for how I feel about those men getting through this with a shred of sanity left. What strength of character! Would not blame them if, now that the need for mental vigilance is over, they lost it totally. They're entitled. I sure would. Continuing prayers for them for some time to come.

I'm beyond words.

This rescue is such a wonderful story. It's really a testament to the power of the human spirit and to the power we have when we pool our resources together for the greater good.
